The successful candidate will be responsible for data accuracy, compliance, and operational support in metering and settlement activities, while also helping improve systems and processes.
What you’ll doIn this role, you’ll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:
Assist in the development and maintenance of appropriate processes, systems, procedures, policies and standards to support meter data management functions for the IESO-administered market.
On an on-going basis assist in reviewing the effectiveness of existing meter data management processes and contribute to the development and implementation of effectiveness and efficiency improvements as necessary. Identify meter data system anomalies or issues, test and document changes for resolution and continuous improvement.
Provide technical and analytical support and training to both internal and external customers as related to meter data management accountabilities. Investigate customer inquiries or complaints and provide support to groups such as Market Settlements, Customer Relations or Market Assessment and Compliance Division investigating such inquiries or complaints.
Manage the meter data management processes related to maintaining the metering database and support the metering registry to produce settlement-ready delivery point data:
Process metering data and execute the data validation, estimation and edit (VEE) process. Review and analyze exception reports from various meter data management systems. Determine and implement appropriate actions to resolve.
Manage the meter trouble report (MTR) process. Issue MTRs to Meter Service Providers (MSPs) and liaise with MSPs to investigate and resolve issues to ensure compliance with the relevant Market Rules and specified timelines.
Review and approve components of Emergency Instrument Transformer Restoration Plans at time of meter registration and the onset of the failure. Review and execute plans, when required, or develop revised plans with MSPs if no longer valid to replace the instrument transformer in the field and determine how to address any missing metering data.
Manage Meter Registration activities by interfacing directly with MSPs in the field and facilitating end to end testing of new meter installations and maintenance of existing meters.
Monitor MSP performance measures to confirm compliance with market rules, policies and procedures. Identify non-compliances, investigate queries from MSPs, and make recommendations.
Oversee and monitor meter data management and settlement calendar processes to ensure full completion. Initiate and escalate appropriate actions when required.
Manage the Demand Response (DR) Program measurement data submissions and support the DR contributor management process. Schedule and perform DR audits on measurement data for validity.
Provide support and data for various audits including Metering Installation, Records and Procedures, etc.
Review notice of disagreements (NODs) and disputes, investigate and analyze measurement data. Provide explanations and support to Market Settlements for use in settlement decision making.
Collect, monitor and maintain measurement data from various interconnections and ensure successful meter replacements at the interties. Interact with jurisdictional counterparts to resolve issues and reconcile measured /scheduled data to support the inadvertent settlement process.
Contribute to the development and delivery of training packages relating to work methods, technology, techniques, and the policies, practices, and procedures relating to the established market rules.
Perform other duties as required.
In a typical day, you will:
Manage and validate metering data by processing data through the VEE (Validation, Estimation, and Editing) process, reviewing exception reports, and resolving anomalies.
Coordinate with Meter Service Providers (MSPs) to handle meter trouble reports, oversee meter registration activities, and ensure compliance with Market Rules and timelines.
Provide technical and analytical support to internal teams and external customers, investigate inquiries or disputes, and assist with audits related to metering and settlement.
Monitor and maintain metering systems and processes, including settlement calendars, Demand Response program data submissions, and interconnection measurement data.
Contribute to process improvements and training, reviewing existing procedures for efficiency, implementing changes, and delivering training packages on metering standards and market rules.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
Education:
Requires knowledge of electrical theory & principles, power systems & distribution, mathematics, concepts of electrical metering, data processing, and statistics. Ability to carry out analytical calculations in order to analyze and synthesize data related to the application and performance of metering installations, meter data management, and settlement activities.
Requires the ability to read and interpret single line diagrams and voltage readings to understand the severity of the problem, conduct analyses, assess whether proposed methods for restoration are appropriate, and determine the best approach for reconciling data.
Requires good written and oral communication skills in order to prepare effective reports, process description/user guides and system documentation, and to deal effectively with internal and external contacts involved in accomplishing work objectives.
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of Grade XII plus additional specified lengthy courses, such as 3 year College diploma in a related field, such as electrical engineering technology, or a related 4 year University degree.
Experience:
Requires familiarity/exposure to system and market operations, applicable market rules, legislation and practices related to metering, meter data management and settlement activities.
Requires familiarity and a good understanding of the electrical utility industry, meter data management and metering systems including applicable regulatory requirements, equipment characteristics, installation and field practices, maintenance practices and loss adjustment methodologies.
Requires experience to become familiar with statistical and database software, data processing/manipulating, desktop software applications, various PC-based query and calculation tools and computer system interfaces.
Requires experience in communicating with internal and external parties on technical matters and providing advice including good customer service skills.
A period of a minimum of 6 years, up to and including 8 years, is considered necessary to gain this experience.
