Purpose of the Role
As the Senior Accountant at Logistics Alliance, you will play a key role in delivering the financial clarity and oversight that drive our business forward. Reporting directly to the Controller and collaborating closely with the VP of Finance, you will oversee critical accounting functions including reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and financial statements, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness at every step. You will also provide guidance and mentorship to a junior team member, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the finance team.
Your work will deliver the accurate financial insights our leadership depends on to make informed, strategic decisions—helping the company operate efficiently and with confidence.
Key Accountabilities:
Deliver accurate, timely month-end close by:
Leading all month-end reconciliations and supporting schedules.
Ensuring monthly reconciliations are completed between the GL and supporting schedules.
Reviewing and posting accruals and journal entries.
Supporting the Controller with month-end schedule management and close deliverables.
Ensuring all financial records and entries are compliant and audit-ready.
Identifying and proactively resolving discrepancies.
Provide robust financial reporting by:
Preparing financial statements and management reports for leadership.
Analyzing trends and variances to identify risks and opportunities.
Translating complex financial data into clear recommendations.
Collaborating with the VP Finance to support business planning and forecasting.
Champion process excellence in reconciliations by:
Implementing and maintaining standardized reconciliation processes.
Reviewing high-volume and high-complexity accounts (bank, AP/AR, intercompany, etc.).
Collaborating with the AR and AP Supervisors when discrepancies arise.
Escalating issues and proposing solutions for recurring gaps.
Ensuring documentation and supporting evidence is complete and audit-ready.
Team mentorship and support by:
Coaching and developing your direct report, providing ongoing feedback.
Setting priorities and expectations for the team.
Supporting training on best practices and process changes.
Acting as the go-to expert for accounting questions or issues.
Required Skills & Expertise:
Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent), or in-progress
Strong understanding of month-end close, reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries
Experience preparing financial statements and reports
Advanced Excel and financial systems skills (ERP experience preferred)
Previous experience in a logistics, supply chain, or high-growth environment an asset
Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff
