We are seeking an experienced Legal Business Specialist to join our Legal, Compliance & Public Affairs (LCPA) team at Marsh McLennan. This role will be based in Toronto, and is a hybrid with a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
The Legal Business Management team manages our relationships with, and expenditure on, external legal firms and related service providers. In collaboration with our global Legal teams, this role sources and negotiates the provision of legal services and maintains effective partnerships with legal vendors to ensure cost efficiency.
The role also supports the invoicing processes (Passport and iProcurement) with external legal firms. The role further protects the budget of LCPA and financial spend of Marsh McLennan by supporting the analysis and management of legal vendor invoices thus preventing overspend/misspend.
We will count on you to:
Support the engagement of Legal Vendors, including law firms and legal service providers, in line with Marsh McLennan’s Vendor and Risk policies
Negotiate fee arrangements, engagement terms, and service level agreements (SLAs) for Legal Vendors in conjunction with LCPA legal teams requiring support
Act as the primary point of administrative contact for Legal Vendors, fostering strong, collaborative and commercial relationships
Support the LCPA process for review, validation and payment of legal invoices from Legal Vendors in accordance with contractual terms and organizational policies
Track and analyze legal spend and Legal Vendor performance for the attention of LCPA Senior Management and Finance teams whilst identifying cost-saving opportunities, and implementing efficiencies
Collaborate with legal teams and Legal Vendors to resolve invoice discrepancies, disputes, and billing issues efficiently
Support the development and enforcement of invoice approval workflows and controls (including appropriate legal billing analysis) to verify compliance with billing guidelines, fee arrangements, and organizational policies
What you need to have:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in legal vendor management, procurement, finance or legal operations
Excellent stakeholder engagement (both Internal and External)
Excellent communication and reporting abilities
High level of attention to detail and ability to complete tasks without supervision
Knowledge of legal market trends, legal industry developments, and best practices in Legal operations and vendor management
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and Power BI
Ability to prioritize work by understanding competing demands, managing tight deadlines, and making appropriate judgments regarding relative importance
Able to take initiative, be proactive and confidently take ownership of matters and develop self
