Position Summary
As a Database Support Specialist in our Lottery Systems R&D group, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of database systems across development, QA, and production environments. This role ensures the reliability, performance, and security of databases by managing upgrades, backups, monitoring capacity, and supporting business intelligence platforms. The specialist collaborates closely with development, QA, and operations teams to implement database changes, fulfill reporting requests, and support software release cycles.
Responsibilities
Database Administration
Administer and maintain development and QA databases
Maintain backups of production databases
Develop archive procedures and maintain archives of production databases
Monitor database capacity and develop plans to accommodate anticipated future growth
Database Development & Deployment
Test and install database platform upgrades
Develop, maintain, package and install database configuration and database tools RPMs
Develop scripts for database changes associated with new software releases
Business Intelligence (BI) Platform Management
Test, package and install BI platform upgrade, customization, and tools RPMs
Perform BI platform administration tasks (manage users, cubes, subscriptions, etc.)
Performance & Reporting
Conduct database performance tests
Fulfill ad hoc query and report requests
Qualifications
Education and Knowledge
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or related field) or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or additional work experience
Knowledge of the following:
Linux operating system
Database systems (relational databases, database architecture, backup and recovery)
Scripting and automation (scripting languages, SQL)
Performance monitoring and tuning (performance tools, capacity planning)
Software Development Lifecycle (Dev/Ops practices, version control, testing)
Business intelligence tools (asset)
Experience
2+ years of experience in database administration and support
Experience with administering databases in a Linux environment
