Volunteer Firefighter
The Township of Perth East is seeking applications for one (1) Volunteer Firefighter to join the Perth East Fire Department – Shakespeare Fire Station.
Position Overview:
The nature of firefighting involves manual work, of a sometimes hazardous nature, including fighting fires, salvage and rescue operations, and providing general first aid. Firefighters work under the supervision of a Captain, the Deputy Station Chief, and the Station Chief. Attending training on a regular basis and maintaining fire vehicles and the fire station is required. Firefighters are required to make serious decisions and work without supervision until higher ranking officers arrive at an emergency.
Firefighters are required to be in excellent physical condition. They must be a minimum of 18 years old, be mentally alert, conscientious, dependable, and get along well with others. Firefighters must be able to pass a medical examination (and receive a Hepatitis B vaccination), a criminal background check and provide a Ministry of Transportation driving abstract. Firefighters must live within a reasonable distance to the Fire Station. They are prohibited from wearing a beard. All new Firefighters will be placed on a one (1) year probation upon hire.
Position Requirements and Desirable Criteria:
Possess a minimum “G” license.
Ability to obtain a D.Z. license within one (1) year of hire.
Carry a pager and be a part of an on-call rotation.
Reside within a reasonable distance of the Fire Station.
Vulnerable Sector Check is required (cost to be reimbursed by the Township upon submission of receipt).
Pre-services Firefighter Education & Training Program Certificate or N.F.P.A 1001 Accredited Program from a recognized institution would be an asset.
First Aid/CPR Certification is preferred.
Having day-time availability is desirable.
