The City of Edmonton's Subdivision Planning Unit is looking for an individual who is passionate about transportation and city building and seeks to apply their knowledge of transportation and land use planning to the review of land development applications and inquiries across the city. Superior customer service and the ability to work in a multi-functional environment will enable you to deliver technical support services as a member of the Subdivision Planning Unit.
What will you do?
Review, technical evaluation and identification of transportation requirements associated with minor Development Applications and residential crossing permits
Ensure compliance with Transportation Engineering Principles and the City of Edmonton guiding documents (such as Zoning Bylaw, Access Management Guidelines, City of Edmonton Complete Streets Design and Construction Specifications, Plans in Effect)
Seek input from and ensure reviews and responses to minor Development Applications are coordinated with any other affected stakeholders including Waste Services, Fire Rescue, Transit, LRT, City Operations, etc.
Ensure that all transportation requirements are clearly and precisely established as conditions of development through the preparation of an application response
Review Utility Line Assignments and ensure that proposed infrastructure does not conflict with approved or planned transportation work. Contact and coordinate potential conflict relocation with the Utility Authority as required and prepare review comments within required timelines
Attend internal and external meetings to provide information, discuss applications and seek solutions to transportation related issues
Complete accurate review, technical evaluation and identification of any transportation requirements associated with internal circulations and prepare clear and concise comments of all transportation requirements
Provide excellent customer service to the general public, other departments and the development industry on transportation-related inquiries
Complete administrative duties associated with website updates, guideline updates, and/or process updates
Perform other duties as required
Completion of a 2 year technical Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field from a recognized institute of technology
Minimum of 2 years experience in transportation planning, including experience in civil engineering, traffic operations, and roadways design/construction
Skills required for success:
Experience in land use planning and development with directly related experience in the review and response preparation of development application is required
An understanding of the overall land development process in the Edmonton context
Working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of transportation planning
Working knowledge of the applicable bylaws, standards and regulations pertaining to the work including the Zoning Bylaw, the Access Management Guidelines, and City of Edmonton Complete Streets Design and Construction Standards
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret site plans, design plans, architectural drawings, landscape plans, specifications, and technical diagrams
Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of City of Edmonton programs, including: Google suite of applications, Pictometry, POSSE, SLIM
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage high volumes of work with competing priorities
Excellent customer service and negotiation skills
Excellent written communication skills to provide professional, accurate, clear emails, memos, and letters for a variety of audiences
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills both one-on-one and in a large groups
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment that is collaborative
Ability to complete and resolve issues related to minor development applications and residential crossing permits, coordinate stakeholder requirements, meet deadlines, and prepare complete technical recommendations/responses

Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
