Position Overview
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the overall upkeep and daily maintenance of a 99-room hotel and an attached Nordic spa facility. This role ensures that all guest rooms, spa amenities, public areas, and back-of-house systems are functioning efficiently, safely, and in accordance with health, safety, and operational standards. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, preventative tasks, and emergency repairs across a variety of systems including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, sauna operations, and kitchen equipment.
Location: Canmore
Shifts: Full-time, permanent, weekdays and weekends.
Wage: $22 per hour
Key Responsibilities
Hotel Room & Public Area Maintenance
Perform regular preventive maintenance checks in guest rooms (lighting, HVAC, plumbing, door locks, etc.)
Complete work orders and maintenance requests promptly and thoroughly
Repair drywall, touch up painting, replace fixtures, tiles, and caulking as needed
Ensure all rooms meet hotel safety and quality standards prior to guest check-in
Nordic Spa Maintenance
Monitor and maintain sauna temperatures to meet operational standards
Perform daily water balancing and chemical checks for hot/cold pools, ensuring pH, chlorine, and alkalinity levels are safe and compliant
Supply and stack wood for wood-burning saunas daily
Inspect and troubleshoot all spa mechanical systems (pumps, heaters, filtration systems)
Perform routine spa property walk-throughs to ensure safety and cleanliness
Monitor safety of Nordic spa guests and respond to incidents or malfunctions promptly
General Property Maintenance
Conduct regular building inspections and property walk-arounds to identify and resolve safety or maintenance issues
Assist with landscaping and snow removal as needed
Maintain back-of-house and public space systems including lighting, HVAC, and plumbing
Assist with fire and life safety systems inspections and repairs (alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting)
Electrical & Plumbing
Troubleshoot and repair minor electrical issues (lights, switches, outlets, appliances)
Perform light plumbing work such as unclogging drains, fixing leaks, replacing faucets and valves
Kitchen Equipment Maintenance
Troubleshoot and assist with repair of commercial kitchen appliances including ovens, dishwashers, fryers, refrigeration units, and ventilation systems
Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs as needed
Guest Service & On-Call Duties
Respond promptly to guest and staff maintenance calls with professionalism and a service-first attitude
Remain on-call as scheduled for after-hours emergencies or urgent maintenance needs
Log all work completed and maintain records for inspections and warranty work
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in a related trade is a plus (CPO,First Aid, WHMIS)
Minimum 2 years’ experience in maintenance or facilities management (hotel/spa setting preferred)
Familiarity with spa operations, pool systems, and water chemistry is an asset
Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems
Able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform physical tasks in all weather conditions
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and efficiently
Must be available for on-call shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
