Job Description: The Safety Manager provides leadership, guidance, and oversight to ensure consistent and effective implementation of CapWest’s Health & Safety Program across all divisions — including Forming, Pumping, Equipment, Electrical, Civil, Drywall, Metal Panel, and Firestopping. This role acts as the key safety liaison between operations, field teams, and leadership, ensuring that all activities meet or exceed WorkSafeBC and OH&S regulatory requirements. Discounted hotel stays in multiple locations through our Hospitality offerings About the role: Provide oversight, guidance, and support to all CapWest divisions ensuring consistent safety standards across Forming, Pumping, Equipment, Electrical, Civil, Drywall, Metal Panel, and Firestopping. Serve as the main safety contact for Superintendents, Project Managers, Operations, HR, and Executive Leadership. Support each division with tailored safety plans, Safe Work Procedures, and critical risk protocols specific to their work scopes. Oversee the development, updating, and implementation of the company’s Safety Program and OH&S Manuals. Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and all applicable OH&S regulations for each division’s activities. Review, revise, and improve SWPs regularly, ensuring division-specific hazards and controls are reflected. Work towards achieving COR certification and maintain all documentation needed for audits. Ensure new projects are set up for safety success from the start, including site-specific safety plans, signage, equipment requirements, emergency protocols, and onboarding coordination. Conduct pre-mobilization safety reviews for higher-risk scopes (cranes, excavation, energized work, suspended slabs, pump setups, metal panel hoisting, etc.). Confirm subcontractors comply with CapWest and OH&S requirements before mobilization. Perform weekly documented site inspections tailored to each division’s operations and follow-up on the completion of outstanding items. Lead incident and injury investigations, ensuring root causes and corrective actions are properly identified and documented. Review all incident reports to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance. Track trends and recommend proactive measures to reduce future risk. Assist with hiring, onboarding, and managing TSO’s (Trade Safety Officers) and site safety personnel as required. Support new employee orientations and ensure workers receive required certifications, refreshers, and site-specific training. Track training records and ensure expiry dates and competencies are up to date. Centralize and maintain all safety documentation, including inspections, incident reports, SWPs, OH&S Manuals, and weekly safety summaries. Provide regular reporting to leadership on trends, compliance, and areas needing improvement. Review critical lifts, hoisting plans, pump setups, and large equipment placement with relevant Project and Equipment teams. Confirm all lifting, rigging, hoisting, and electrical work is completed in accordance with OH&S and CapWest standards. Coordinate with Equipment and Pumping divisions for required NDTs, inspections, and certifications. Order safety equipment and supplies for all divisions through the ordering process and monitor safety budget items and ensure cost-effective purchasing. Act as a visible leader and role model in safety, setting expectations for all supervisors and workers. Coach site teams to improve safe work habits and reinforce accountability. Promote a positive, proactive safety culture built on open communication and shared responsibility. What you'll bring: Minimum 10 years of experience in a Safety role particularly with fall protection/working at heights, working on large scale projects with multiple sub-trades Strong understanding of multi-trade construction safety (formwork, cranes, pumping, shoring, electrical, drywall, civil, and equipment). Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English Strong documentation capacity with the ability to meet stringent deadlines. Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and hold teams accountable. Ability to work across multiple sites and manage competing priorities.
