PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Are you a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic or Maintenance Technician looking to take your career to the next level? As a valued member of the CPKC Work Equipment team, you’ll have the opportunity to work with advanced mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems essential to our rail operations. In this role, you’ll showcase your expertise by performing comprehensive preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical issues, and executing high-quality repairs on a wide range of heavy equipment and machinery. This role is ideal for individuals who are mechanically inclined, enjoy hands-on work in outdoor environments, and are open to occasional travel for field service assignments.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment, identifying and addressing potential problems before they cause failure
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, or electronic issues in machinery, which may involve disassembling, replacing parts, and reassembling equipment involved in changing ties and rails including machines, ballast regulators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, tie cranes, tie inserters, etc.
Utilize manual, electric, and hydraulic tools, alongside welders and cutting torches, to perform and verify maintenance tasks and repairs
Investigate and diagnose equipment issues, taking swift corrective action to minimize downtime and production disruptions
Plan, organize, and coordinate work within a collaborative team setting
Follow all safety regulations and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), especially when working in potentially hazardous environments
Maintain detailed logs of all maintenance and repair work performed, including schedules and parts used.
Ensure all tools are maintained in optimal working condition and operate various types of heavy and specialized machinery as required
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or general equivalency
Minimum of 3 years’ experience repairing heavy-duty equipment or as a maintenance technician
Completion of formal training in heavy equipment or commercial transport is required; possessing a heavy-duty equipment mechanic license is considered an asset
Valid driver’s license
Well-versed in reading schematics and skilled in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems
Proficient in computer use, including maintaining data for repair work orders and working with various software applications
Solid foundational knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and welding principles is required, with opportunities for specialized expertise based on industry needs
