Closes: Thursday, December 4, 2025 General Accountability Responsible to participate in the development and alignment of the corporate strategic plans for SGI and SGI CANADA, including ongoing measurement and evaluation of the plans. Undertakes strategic research that aids in the development and enhancement of the strategic plans and shares this research corporately to strengthen business acumen. Key Accountabilities Note: This section is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities – other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. Strategic Research (40%) Performs strategic research and provides recommendations that aid senior leadership and the Board of Directors in responding to industry and environmental pressures, including: Analysis, monitoring and reporting of the financial performance of the Canadian insurance industry by region, insurer and line of business; Analysis, monitoring and reporting of industry, market and competitor trends to identify threats and opportunities; and, Preparation of white papers on critical issues that are impacting or expected to impact the company, including recommendations regarding next steps. Recommends enhancements to existing research and competitive intelligence practices based on monitoring and assessing best and emerging practices, consulting with internal and external contacts, and understanding key stakeholders. Develops, maintains and expands relationships with internal research groups, business areas, data providers and external contacts within the insurance sector building trust in order to stay attuned to and provide market and performance insights to senior leadership. Shares strategic research through presentations, research reports and self-serve reporting tools (developed and maintained by the Specialist) to bolster business acumen throughout the company, as well as with the Board of Directors and CIC. Undertakes research and consultation to support confidential and sensitive Executive projects and to respond to information requests and issues brought forward by the Minister’s office, CIC and other government departments. Corporate Strategic Planning and Alignment (30%) Participates in the development and communication of the annual strategic plan, including the Performance Management Plan, corporate balanced scorecard and President & CEO’s Performance Development Plan. Consults with corporate leadership to identify and develop key performance indicators for the corporate balanced scorecard to drive desired strategic outcomes that are aligned with SGI’s strategic goals and to effectively evaluate achievement of those outcomes. Collaborates with project leads/sponsors to identify and develop key performance indicators that align with SGI’s strategic goals, drive desired project outcomes and effectively evaluate achievement of those outcomes. Evaluates execution of the strategic plan through performance monitoring and reporting, including quarterly balanced scorecard reports and priority updates for CIC and the Board of Directors. Makes recommendations regarding organizational strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats based on market observations, MSA reporting, corporate performance, internal consultations, etc. Leadership (10%) Actively contributes to and supports a culture of a high performing workforce. Participates in divisional succession plans, ensuring ongoing professional and career development and supports development in others. Supports a culture of leadership and accountability to effectively deliver on strategic and corporate strategies. Is actively committed to leadership development across the company, supporting team and workforce readiness through mentoring, training and developmental opportunities. Corporate Management (10%) Enables the success of programs and policies that are in alignment with corporate, strategic and divisional strategies. Manages risk in area of authority. Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility. Education and Experience A bachelor’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in a relevant field of study such as business administration, commerce or public policy. Five years’ experience in the insurance industry or strategic planning. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of strategic planning principles and practices. Knowledge of balanced scorecard principles and practices. Knowledge of competitor analysis processes. Knowledge of the insurance industry across multiple jurisdictions. Skill in interpreting financial data and calculating key financial indicators. Ability to write high-quality reports and presentations that are clear, concise and targeted to specific audiences. Ability to gather, analyze, simplify and leverage complex information to make business recommendations.
