Detailed OverviewUnder the direction of the Manager, Clinical Operations or designate, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, performs practical nursing duties in a general daycare environment. Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care for patients undergoing Minor Procedures, IV Therapy, Home IV, Enterostomal Therapy, Wound Care and other outpatient procedures/consultations. Assists with the admission of patients to procedure/consultation rooms and performs intra-procedure/consultation duties in accordance with established standards and protocols. Operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Responsibilities
- Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care for patients undergoing Minor Procedures, Home IV, Enterostomal Therapy, Wound Care, IV Therapy including infusions, and other outpatient procedures/consultations during the pre, intra and post-procedure/consultation periods.
- Assists with admission of patients to procedure/consultation rooms and performs intra-procedure/consultation duties for patients in accordance with established standards and protocols.
- As directed, performs practical nursing duties during the pre, intra and post-procedure/consultation periods which assist the RN in coordinating patient care.
- Monitors the conditions of patients during procedures/consultations to ensure their safety and comfort. Provides patient condition information and feedback to the RN and physician.
- Documents onto the patient record the observations, treatment and other patient care information during the pre, intra and post-procedure/consultation periods.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities, education sessions, team conferences, meetings and committees as assigned.
- Assists with orientation of new staff, students and other members of the Health Care Team by performing duties such as demonstrating work procedures.
- Performs related clerical duties such as answering the telephone, taking and relaying messages and assisting in maintaining standardized records.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation and ExperienceGraduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with the full range of current licensed practical nursing competencies, plus one (1) year's recent, related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Current basic cardiac life support certification.
