Job Description: Position Purpose summary: The Sales Associate provides service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists the supervisor in the maintenance of all store operations. Accountabilities: % Time Key Responsibility Area 1 85% Operations Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards Implements store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays; Maintain an attractive organized appearance of the store, tidy up and restock shelves, clean, sweep, dust and mop as necessary. Replenishes inventory levels based on Supervisor’s directions Contributes to the control of inventory by pick- up/retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; Protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring Takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc. 2 10% Health & Safety Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, and clean spillage.) Handle the merchandise in a safe and organized manner; assist in stock rotation – “baling” items in the store. Perform other position related duties as required. 3 5% Communications Inform your supervisor of all donor/customer complaints, comments and concerns regarding customer service, prices, merchandise, etc. CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Internal: Corps Officer, Sales Associates MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY: This position reports directly to Corps Officer Initial and primary point-of-contact for all Thrift Store customers This position has no direct reports but does give some direction to volunteers FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget. WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the store. Ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching and reaching is required. Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds on a regular basis. The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions: Garbage Washrooms Odours Truck Fumes Verbal abuse Dealing with angry people Work schedule may impact life (weekends, or unexpected shift coverage) The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct. education and experience Qualifications: Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completion of High School (an alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable) Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience in warehouse processing or goods distribution and knowledge of lifting guidelines. Cash handling experience is required. Brand awareness would be a definite asset. Basic math skills required to calculate discounts and percentages as well as reading skills. Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is a definite asset. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $15.35 to $17.83 with a maximum of $21.40. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
