Intern, Engineering Systems (Master Data)
This is a full-time summer internship lasting from May 11, 2026, until August 28, 2026.
Job Summary
The summer intern supporting the Engineering Master Data Team will gain hands-on experience in railway engineering while contributing to meaningful business outcomes. This role focuses on enhancing the accuracy of Engineering Master Data, which drives value through technology and process improvements. The intern will play a key part in identifying, implementing, and supporting both business processes and technological advancements within the Engineering function.
Major Responsibilities
Update CN Enterprise Plant Inventory, Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), Geographic Information System (GIS) database, and Enterprise Geographic Information System (EGIS) to reflect changes to assets for CN’s track network
Integrate spatial and non-spatial data formats as well as apply quality control procedures to meet the rigorous accuracy and network topology standards required for safe and efficient rail operation
Collate and analyze complex data from multiple sources to develop actionable insights
Communicate between different engineering disciplines and business teams to acquire spatial data, promote GIS initiatives, and coordinate updates
Cooperate and communicate with peers, field personnel, and various departments
Requirements
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Collaborates with others and shares information
Applies critical thinking
Identifies potential safety and security risks
Demonstrates active listening
Knowledge of AutoCAD Map 3D and GIS topologies
Knowledge of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), ArcGIS Desktop, ArcMap Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, Network Analyst extensions, high precision Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies and post-processing, as well as Commercial Relational Database Management System (RDBMSs) such as Oracle
Education
Working towards a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with geospatial emphasis
Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
