What You'll Get to Do
Reporting to the Senior Manager-Inflight Operations, the Assistant Manager – Inflight, is a dynamic and engaging people leader to the Flight Attendant group. They are responsible for the leadership and support of the Flight Attendant group assigned to all Calm Air bases. This role will ensure regulatory requirements, Company policies, standard operating procedures and safety standards while fostering a professional and supportive culture for the Flight Attendant Team. The Assistant Manager – Inflight will act as the primary liaison between the Flight Attendants and corporate Flight Operations Management Team.
Operations:
Support and oversee day-to-day inflight operations and flight attendant performance at each base
Ensure Inflight compliance with Transport Canada (CARs) and Company standard operating procedures
Conduct base audits, cabin inspections and compliance checks as required
Process and action flight attendant reports, emails, and inform the Senior Manager – Inflight Operations promptly of any significant in-flight irregularities including incident, accident, and occurrence reports, as they are reported by the individual Flight Attendants
Ensure Flight Attendants report operational situations in a timely manner
Responsible for maintaining Flight Attendant Uniform Policies and ensure all uniform policies are adhered to
Perform periodic checks to assess procedures and individual performance in safety, emergency procedures, cabin service and passenger handling
Coordinate and maintain onboard commissary
Support and maintain a strong relationship with the Flight Attendant Union group
Responsible for the Senior Manager-Inflight Operations duties when the Senior Manager-Inflight Operations is absent
Assist with managing Crew Accommodations
Assist in updating and amending the Flight Attendant Manual, ensuring it’s consistent with other guidance materials and manuals as required and ensure copies of all amendments are supplied to all holders of the Manual
Assist with overseeing the Flight Attendant Training and coordinating FA Training (booking meeting rooms, scheduling etc.)
Ensure all Flight Attendant qualifications are current
Conduct Flight Attendant recruitment activities as required
Monitor procedures with respect to passenger safety and handling and make recommendations for changes and/or improvements
Participate in the preparation of corrective action training plans
Other duties as assigned
Safety & Leadership:
Maintain safety as our first quality standard
Participate in Safety Management System Corrective Action Plans for Cabin Safety
Conduct performance discussions, coaching and when necessary, corrective follow-ups
Support and mentor the Flight Attendant group
Reinforce safety and security procedures
Provide guidance and support to new hires
Promote occupational health and safety within your department, and participate in the development and monitoring of safety training
Proactively communicate hazards and SMS initiatives with your department
Embark on employment equity initiatives, engaging with all employees to promote employment equity and encouraging employees to undertake the self-declaration survey updating as necessary
All levels of the organization share responsibility for human rights within the organization, overseeing and promoting continuous improvement on human rights and employment equity initiatives
Other duties as assigned
Carry out their duties safely within regulatory and company standards, policies, processes, and procedures as trained. Use safety equipment (tools, Proper Protective Equipment etc.) as provided. Actively identify and report hazards and deficiencies (when in doubt report). Assist in development of company processes and procedures as required.
Skills & Experience We Value
Must have a High School Diploma
Minimum two (2) years Industry Experience is an asset but not required, preferably in a leadership role or management role
Post-Secondary education or certification in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field is an asset
Knowledge of Transport Canada CARs 705 and inflight operating procedures is not required but considered an asset
Familiarity with in-flight training standards is not required but considered an asset
Proven leadership and people management experience, including conflict resolution and performance management
Must be able to manage your time effectively in a fast-paced environment
Superior interpersonal, listening, and problem-solving skills
