This Geospatial Systems Analyst is a technical advisor and provides support services for the City's enterprise geospatial technologies and information, commonly referred to as GIS (Geographic Information Systems). This role provides support for the City’s primary geospatial applications. Geospatial systems and data enable almost all services provided by the City, such as taxation, transit, waste management, parks and roadway management, and urban planning, making these technologies vital to the operation of many business areas. This position works with people from business units across the corporation to meet their GIS related business needs. This involves maintaining a good understanding of existing business processes that involve the acquisition, analysis, and distribution of location data, assisting in improving those processes, and helping develop new processes.
What will you do?
Enhance and maintain the enterprise GIS platform to meet service levels and stay up to date with current technologies and geospatial capabilities
Investigate, analyze, and resolve complex technical and data issues related to application development, data integration, and application performance and reliability
Assist end users to provide them with a better client experience using GIS software solutions
Build user-friendly and feature-rich applications and system integrations to meet business needs, participating in the full systems development lifecycle, from requirements definition through design to implementation and ongoing operation
A Degree in a related discipline and 1 year of relevant experience
OR a Post-secondary diploma in a related discipline and 2 years relevant experience
OR a one-year related certificate (with a minimum of 700+ instructional hours and relevant coursework) and 4 years relevant experience

Skill required for success:
Knowledge and skill in a variety of GIS technologies, including ArcGIS Suite (Server, Enterprise, and Pro), enterprise geodatabases, VertiGIS, SQL Server, and FME, with an understanding of how these integrate within a single technology stack
Programming experience with Python and SQL
Experience with Windows server system administration and Azure cloud infrastructure
Ability to perform problem investigation, solution delivery, and maintenance of GIS applications
Understanding of City of Edmonton IT processes, procedures, and architectural guidelines for application development and infrastructure operations
Skillful application of creativity, judgment, and initiative to address technical challenges
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships and collaborate effectively with team members, our GIS user community, and business partners
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, manage time effectively, and handle tight deadlines
Strong analytical, problem-identification, and process analysis skills
Ability to provide guidance and direction to less experienced staff
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
