Purpose: To increase the visibility, trust, and public engagement of the BC Parks Foundation through strategic media relations and multimedia storytelling that drives earned coverage, builds reputation, and sparks action.

Role Summary:
The Manager, Communications & Media Relations plays a central role in raising the visibility, trust, and impact of BCPF through storytelling, earned media, and cross-platform content that connects with diverse audiences.
The successful candidate will lead BCPF’s media relations function and is responsible for identifying, pitching, and securing compelling stories across legacy, digital, and social channels—going from CBC to TikTok without breaking stride. The Manager brings a journalism mindset and multimedia flair to engage the public in protecting nature and promoting outdoor recreation, while building strong relationships with reporters, influencers, and content collaborators. They also work across teams to shape storylines that elevate key campaigns, ensure timely and relevant media positioning, and contribute to sector-leading share of voice and engagement results.
Responsibilities
Lead development and execution of proactive media content to position BCPF as a trusted and visible voice in outdoor recreation and conservation.
Build and manage strong relationships with journalists and producers across local, national, and sector-specific outlets.
Identify and nurture relationships with influencers, media partners, and aligned organizations to amplify BCPF’s voice through cross-promotion, co-branded stories, or collaborative campaigns.
Identify, shape, and pitch compelling stories that earn coverage and spark public interest and engagement.
Monitor news cycles and social trends to position BCPF in timely and relevant conversations.
Develop fresh, resonant content angles across traditional and digital channels that cut through attention fatigue.
Work with teams across BCPF to translate initiatives into media-worthy and viral-ready stories that advance organizational goals.
Produce multimedia press materials and assets that blend editorial storytelling with visual and social appeal for broad distribution.
Requirements:
3+ years of experience in journalism, media relations, strategic communications, or related fields.
Proven track record of securing high-impact earned media coverage across local and national outlets.
Experience building and managing strong relationships with journalists, editors, influencers, and media partners.
Excellent writing, pitching, and editorial content production skills, including press materials, opinion pieces, and digital features.
Familiarity with media monitoring, performance analytics, and metrics-driven storytelling.
Experience working collaboratively across teams and with subject matter experts to translate complex initiatives into accessible narratives.
