About the Position Working as part of the Winnipeg management team, the Inorganics Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of inorganic laboratory analysis including production, staff and cost management, quality control and turnaround time. Specific Responsibilities Supervises and develops the systems and processes used in the operation of the section; Allocates personnel and resources to maximize section production, quality and efficiency; Organizing workloads to meet department turnaround time goals, client turnaround times and sample hold times; Monitors turnaround and problem parameters to ensure departmental due dates are met; Engages in development of lab systems or personnel training to ensure timely delivery of data; Engages in continual planning and identification of needs; Assists with budget activities and cost control and maintains costs within guidelines; Establish effective communication with employees and actively provides appropriate information to maintain engagement; Work with other supervisors to ensure effective resource sharing in all aspects including labour, knowledge and cross-training; Supervises the technical aspects of the laboratory section and provides technical decision making; Develops and implements plans for method and instrumentation improvement; Becomes familiar with all section instrumentation, methods, regulations and client applications of data; Provides technical support to Account Managers and clients and responds to technical inquiries. Actively support the quality program mandates; including training, completing routine checks, participating in audits, resolving quality issues in a timely manner and ensuring that analytical records and quality documentation is maintained; Ensures the quality of all work and analytical data produced meet or exceeds company and market standards; Promotes and sustains a strong health and safety culture in the section; Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; Observes established safety regulations and complies with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Detail-oriented, results-focused, and strong organization skills; Proven time management and prioritization skills; Demonstrated judgement, creativity, integrity and ability to problem solve; Ability to effectively handle escalations and time critical issues; Actively practice team work with strong interpersonal and leadership skills; Strong safety and quality service approach with the ability to understand business operations and client requirements; Excellent computer skills including MS Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint; Strong command of the English language, both verbal and written communication skills. Required Qualifications Recognized Technical Diploma or Degree in Chemistry, or related discipline required; Minimum of 4 years environmental laboratory analysis experience in metals and/or water quality required; Minimum of 2 years leadership experience required (i.e. lead hand/team lead) with previous supervisory experience preferred. Physical Demands Able to stand for up to a full shift; Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities; Able to lift 30lbs and carry for short distances; Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks; You may be exposed to unpleasant odours; Please note that ALS Environmental operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends as needed.
