WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking an experienced, strategic Finance Lead to head the Finance function for Mustang Survival as part of an integrated corporate financial support plan. You will be accountable for delivering a full range of finance services across our Canadian and U.S. operations—including accounting, budgeting, banking, tax, credit, and related controls—while formulating and recommending financial policies and plans that enable corporate stability, profitability, and growth against the Operating Plan.
This role combines hands-on financial stewardship with senior-level business partnering: you’ll build and improve reporting and financial management systems (including MRP/ERP and financial management systems), provide rigorous analytical insight to inform leadership decisions, negotiate with external financial partners, and represent the company in government and tax reporting matters. You will lead, coach and motivate a finance team, drive process improvements, and partner with operational leaders to translate business needs into transparent, decision-quality financial information.

STRUCTURE
The Director of Finance is one of 4 positions reporting to the CFO, with dotted line reporting to the President of Mustang Survival. As the Director of Finance, you will be on the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) that include the President of Mustang Survival, the VP of Global Sales and Marketing, VP of Military Sales, VP of Global Product, VP of IT and Planning, VP of supply chain and manufacturing, MD of Wing Europe, Director of Compliance, Director of People and Culture.
The Director has two direct reports, the Cost Accountant and the Controller.
RESPONSIBILITY
Strategic Leadership
Participates in the Strategic Planning process and develops strategies related to Corporate Financial planning. Provides analysis of and input to the strategic planning process relative to expansion of manufacturing capacity, introduction or expansion of product lines, and financial impact of various strategic decisions.
As part of the Senior Leadership team, works with the other members to support. communicate, reinforce and defend Mustang's vision, values. philosophy and culture. Ensures activities receive the input and consideration of others and includes others in the decision-making process as appropriate
Financial Management
Works with the Supply Chain team to establish costing standards and monitor results vs budget
Works with Sales & Marketing in the development and oversight of pricing strategies and policies, auditing the pricing process, and review of promotional pricing opportunities in order to achieve desired profitability.
In conjunction with key cross functional team members, develop strategies and tools to manage inventory levels, develop and implement customer credit policies, and maximize cash flow and profits.
Arranges for and liaises with external auditors and works with them coordinating tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
Safeguards corporate assets against loss through good internal control system
Management Leadership
Manages the activities of the departmental staff in Canada and the US. Identifies and determines position and incumbent requirements, including setting responsibilities and performance, development and training objectives, and performance reviews.
Leads and motivates staff, inspires changes and creativity, evaluates performance, develops and counsels employees and recommends salary increases .
Cost Accounting and Management Support Services
Develops, introduces, administers and evaluates accounting and administrative policies and procedures to meet executive and operational needs, ensuring compliance to applicable Canadian, and US. legislation and promotes Mustang’s corporate values. Assesses impact of new and proposed legislation on existing polices and strategies, and provides recommendations on continuous improvement activities
Prepares timely and accurate operations reports to the senior leadership team, which provide useful information over and above standard financial reporting.
Oversees the budgeting process for planning and control purposes including defining process, providing historical data and economic indicators, and training managers. Monitors and reports on financial progress and recommends corrective action as required through analysis of balance sheets, income and expense statements, gross profit results versus target, inventory turnover rate, accounts receivable collection activities, etc.
Develops and maintains an internal control structure which ensures that the integrity of information is maintained in the areas of receivables, payables, treasury, revenues, inventory, fixed assets and financial reporting and conducts internal audits to ensure adherence.
Qualifications
A University Degree and a professional accounting designation supplemented by a minimum ten years’ industry experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Minimum 5 Years Senior Management experience leading strategic financial business opportunities to shape a transparent and meaningful business enterprise
Private company financial partnering experience considered an asset
Cross border finance and business operations experience considered an asset
Proven team competencies, and demonstrated experience working successfully at both the senior management and employee levels.
Ability to adapt and work well in a continuously changing environment through a genuine interest in seeking to understand others and a demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and motivate

Demonstrated ability to negotiate with external financial partners on technical and contractual issues and to develop networks and contracts, nationally and internationally.
Good knowledge of general business systems and processes, including MRP and Financial
Management systems
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
Excellent working knowledge of accounting theory and practice.
Familiarity with current legislation and external forces of economic or socio-economic nature.
Experience with government and tax reporting. US experience an asset.
Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret business information needs into reporting systems.
