The Opportunity
Postmedia is seeking an experienced, motivated and inspirational journalism leader in the role of Vice President of News, Medium and Community Markets.
The incumbent will be a member of the senior editorial leadership team at Postmedia and hold responsibility for the success and ongoing evolution of our mission-driven journalism in medium and regional markets across Canada, working in collaboration with our national product and strategy team.
The role requires a track record in digital journalism in medium and regional markets and a strategic mind focused on continuous improvement and the evolution of the craft.
What you'll do:
Directly oversee operations of our mid-market newsrooms: Saskatchewan, London, Windsor, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland.
Oversee the work of the Director, Regional Markets, who is responsible for markets across Canada in Northern Ontario, Eastern Ontario, Grey-Bruce, Prince Edward Island, Brantford, Simcoe and Sarnia, and for the strategic direction of the journalism of all regional markets at Postmedia.
Work with senior editorial team and national product and strategy group to achieve audience and growth objectives.
Fostering a culture of performance in newsrooms, with a focus on versatility and nimbleness and ensuring best practices are adopted and shared across markets.
Work to ensure newsrooms are focused on their unique missions and coverage priorities, and devising strategies to grow in those areas.
Ensuring our brands retain and grow their reputation as crucial community pillars and national leaders in quality journalism.
Prioritize the development of key talent and work in collaboration with the editorial leadership team to discover and execute growth and retention strategies for high-ceiling personnel.
Determine new structures and opportunities to optimize newsroom performance.

Who you are:
A strong track record in senior leadership roles.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with a clear understanding of how to manage, develop and lead people.
Five or more years of managerial experience in a publishing environment as a content leader/editor.
Deep familiarity with digital platforms and social media.
The ability to think strategically, combined with the expertise to develop and execute against short-term and long-term objectives.
An outstanding record at building relationships up, across, and down their organization.
