Intern, Enterprise Architecture (I&T)
This is a full-time summer internship lasting from May 11, 2026, until August 28, 2026.
Job Summary
The Intern, Enterprise Architecture is responsible for supporting emerging technologies and innovation practices. The incumbent researches the latest technology trends applicable to railroading and has the opportunity to communicate trends and innovations to the larger CN I&T community. The role is exposed to the fundamental workings of the railroad across many business disciplines as well as to Research and Development (R&D), architecture, and solution delivery best practices. The position is performed within a team of experienced thought leaders and passionate professionals that solve exciting enterprise challenges in a fun and collaborative atmosphere. The exceptional breadth of exposure to numerous opportunities from “classic” mainframe systems to the bleeding edge of distributed Artificial Intelligence (AI), from telecom to finance and everything in between provides a unique opportunity to understand the workings of a large supply chain enabler.
Main Responsibilities
Learn the key elements of railroading
Research technology trends in the railroad and adjacent industries then document how they would be applied
Prepare technical radars and reports for specific innovation topics
Assess potential suppliers on their product and service offering, including both start-ups and market leaders
Support the delivery of proof of concept and prototyping initiatives, including business cases, data gathering, and delivery planning
Develop and execute innovative communication strategies for digital tools such as Yammer and SharePoint
Create standard templates for research requests
Shadow meetings with research partners and suppliers

Knowledge of technologies and practices such as Optimizers, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAVs), wearables, extended reality, Blockchain, autonomous vehicles, digital twins, edge computing, control towers, data governance, and railroad operations
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Knowledge of Teams and SharePoint
Education
Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or Business
Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
