Role Overview:
Reporting to the Director, Signature & Special Events, the Manager, Community, Fundraising and Events (Manager, CFE) plays an important role in strengthening Diabetes Canada’s Events program by building relationships with community partners, sponsors, participants, volunteers and fundraisers across Canada. This team leader position is responsible for achieving revenue targets and developing mutually beneficial partnerships within the events portfolio.
The Manager collaborates with the Director on logistics, administration, and volunteer engagement, and works cross-functionally with the National Corporate Fund Development team to identify sponsorship opportunities.
Location: Diabetes Canada’s national office is at 1000–170 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. We offer a flexible work arrangement, allowing employees to work remotely while occasionally coming into the office as required by their manager or the organization. This role is required to attend events across Canada throughout the year.
This role includes, but not limited to:
Community Engagement & Relationship Building
Identify, develop, and cultivate relationships with community partners, sponsors, volunteers, and event participants to strengthen Diabetes Canada’s presence and impact.
Recruit, train, and manage volunteer committees to support event execution and fundraising initiatives.
Act as the primary liaison for community partners in portfolio, ensuring strong stewardship and long-term engagement.
Fundraising & Revenue Generation
Develop and implement strategies to achieve or exceed revenue targets for the CFE portfolio.
Drive sponsorship acquisition through prospecting, proposal development, and negotiation of mutually beneficial partnerships.
Manage peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives and third-party event recruitment to diversify revenue streams.
Maintain and manage a pipeline of qualified prospects, ensuring timely follow-up and engagement.
Utilize a moves management approach to track and advance relationships with corporate partners and volunteers.
Ensure accurate and timely data entry in the organization’s CRM system for reporting and analysis.
Event Planning & Execution
Oversee the planning and delivery of community fundraising events, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and brand standards.
Collaborate with internal teams to coordinate logistics, marketing, and participant experience.
Monitor event performance metrics and implement improvements to maximize impact and ROI.
Team Leadership/Development and Cross-Functional Collaboration
Lead, coach, and mentor a team to achieve departmental goals.
Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Provide guidance on event planning, fundraising strategies, and volunteer engagement.
Work closely with the National Corporate Fund Development team to identify and leverage sponsorship opportunities.
Partner with Marketing and Communications teams to develop compelling event materials and campaigns.
The ideal candidate possesses:
Post-secondary education in Fundraising, Marketing, Communications, or related field or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5 years business development or fundraising experience.
Prior people management experience preferred.
Non-profit experience in a national health charity is an asset.
Proven ability to develop impactful presentations to diverse audiences.
Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems is an asset.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proven success in building and leading volunteer committees.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and donor databases.

This position is a full-time hybrid/remote position; candidates will be expected to travel to attend events
Candidate must have a valid driver's license and vehicle
