Job Summary
Working under the direction of the Community Connections Manager, the Community Connections Coordinator is responsible for MAGMA volunteer recruitment, communications and program development.
Core Position Responsibilities
Volunteer Support
- Recruits, screens and selects volunteers
- Develops and facilitates appropriate training for all volunteers
- Matches volunteers with newcomer individuals or families
- Produces schedules for the activities of the volunteers and monitors accordingly
- Promotes the volunteering program and MAGMA throughout the tri-communities
- Source and recruit volunteers through various techniques (databases, e-mail, social media etc.)
- Assign responsibilities to the right people for special events
- Coordinate teams of volunteers for large-scale actions/events
- Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed
- Keep detailed records of volunteers’ information, assignments and any other important information required to keep the database up-to-date and current
- Receives, manages and organizes donations on behalf of MAGMA (clothing, household items, toys etc)
- Represents the organization in the community when required and maintains solid relationships with other helping organizations and the community at large.
- Completes reports and attends meetings as required by MAGMA.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and confidential volunteer records and documentation.
- Prepare reports and summaries as required by organizational policies and funders.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and confidentiality agreements. Act as a liaison between all the departments to ensure seamless communication and coordination and keep up-to-date best practices and procedures.
Collaboration and Teamwork
- Work closely with other MAGMA team members to ensure coordinated and holistic support for clients.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with community organizations, service providers, and stakeholders to enhance client support.
Job Requirements
- A university degree or equivalent education and/or experience in volunteer recruitment/management, in social work or a related human services field
- Strong computer skills
- Presentation skills
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Must be able to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends
- Experience working with counselling or other helping capacity
- Valid criminal record check
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work cooperatively with volunteers, staff, and community partners
- Proficiency in MS Office, specifically PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
- Attention to detail, and strong work ethic
- Demonstrated level of cultural sensitivity and understanding
- Strong sensitivity to working with clients from diverse backgrounds
- Strong attention to detail and flexibility to deal with the changing demands of the job
