The ABB Measurement & Analytics plant in Québec is a global leader in spectroscopy. Our contract engineering service is the largest Canadian supplier of spaceborne optical sensors, used notably for greenhouse gas emissions monitoring and global weather forecasting. The facility is also renowned for its expertise in developing and manufacturing a wide range of products that address various industrial analysis needs on a daily basis.
By joining one of the largest engineering departments in Québec, you will actively contribute to our client projects as well as to research and development efforts for our technology. You will be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team.
You will be responsible for the mechanical aspects of measurement instrument design within the Measurement & Analytics business unit, located in Québec City (Canada). As a member of the opto-mechanical group, you will oversee the mechanical design, manufacturing, and analysis elements for multiple projects, ensuring successful, on-time delivery within budget and in compliance with quality and safety standards.
You will also be responsible for conducting structural and thermal analyses to guide the design of these systems within the opto-mechanical team.
The ideal candidate is a mechanical engineer with strong physical intuition, autonomy, experience in multidisciplinary teamwork, and a solid background in R&D for space system design and analysis.
Responsibilities:
Design aerospace and industrial instruments in accordance with technical requirements, budget, and schedule
Select and optimize manufacturing processes (CNC machining, molding, bending, 3D printing, etc.)
Perform FEA simulations (structural and/or thermal) to support mechanical design decisions
Validate and approve technical drawings, ensuring compliance with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing standards
Supervise assembly and mechanical environmental testing
Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and deliver high-level presentations to clients during key project milestones
Contribute to project planning and the preparation of technical proposals and cost estimates
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 10 years of experience developing complex systems; knowledge of aerospace systems is an asset
Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA)—structural and/or thermal
Experience in designing instruments for harsh environments
Solid understanding of materials, mechanical manufacturing processes, heat treatments, and surface treatments
Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
Bilingual (French/English) with strong verbal and written communication skill. English is necessary for regular communication with clients outside Québec.
