Salary: $29.65

Hours of work: 21 hours per week
Position Status: Part-Time, Regular. This is an existing vacancy.

Reporting to the CEO and Head Librarian, the Library Assistant will be the first point of contact for members of the public and will demonstrate a firm commitment to friendly, high-quality service to all library patrons. The individual will perform public service functions in the Keewatin Branch that will include circulation, collections management, and library promotion along with reader’s advisory reference services and programs.
Duties:
Demonstrates, as priority, a firm commitment to providing friendly, high quality service to all library patrons, in all library service areas.
Perform circulation desk duties using automated library systems. Check library materials in/out/renew materials, take reserve and interlibrary loan requests, collection of fines and bills, verification of overdue materials, register and update library memberships.
Provide instruction to patrons in selection of materials and reference information.
Respond to reference questions in person and by telephone through the use of a wide variety of research materials and equipment.
Assist patrons in the use of Internet access computers, and online public access terminals, and other technologies.
Responsible for all programming for the Keewatin Branch.
Responsible for selection and delivery of book loans to senior citizens and shut-ins in the Keewatin neighborhood.
Responsible for selection and ordering of materials, verifying order information, releasing orders, and maintaining related files for the Keewatin Branch collection.
Maintain records and statistics for month-end reports.
Coordinate on-going public relations programs to inform the public about the library and its services.
Responsible for delivery of month end deposits to the Kenora Branch Library.
Cleaning duties as needed including vacuuming, mopping and cleaning
Work to ensure that the equipment and facility are operating in a safe manner and follow all Health and Safety regulations as required.
Qualifications:
Must have a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
Must possess and maintain a clean valid ‘G’ Class Ontario Driver’s License.
Completed post-secondary education and/or combination of education and experience in library services, education, social services, or related field preferred.
Physically capable of performing the duties of the position including heavy lifting.
Previous work experience with the public and/or in a library setting is an asset.
Ability to deal effectively with the public in a variety of situations.
Ability to work with other staff as part of a team.
Ability to work under minimal supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Familiarity with social media administration (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube), webpage development, and with Microsoft Office.
Ability to handle cash accurately.
Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to connect and build rapport with a diverse client population and varied cultural, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.
