Position Summary
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Camp Counsellor will supervise a group of children or youth in a day camp setting. Camp Counsellors will assist in the implementation and delivery of camp activities and ensure camper safety and security throughout the day. Follow policies and procedures, while delivering camp services. Work effectively with Program Coordinator, Camp Directors, Supervisors, peers, participants and the public.Key Dates
Camp Training dates are as listed below:
June 4 - 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
June 10 - 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
June 20 - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
June 25 - 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

Camp Dates:
June 29 - August 28, 2026, or if at Elgin West CC, September 4, 2026
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Implement daily camp activities.
Modify camp activities to ensure campers with disabilities are able to participate in programs and be fully integrated into the camp setting.
Ensure there are a variety of activities in the camp program.
Ensure camp ratios are met at all times.
Work with the Camp Volunteers to ensure they are included in the programs and have various responsibilities.
Communicate and interact with participants and make everyone feel welcome
Ensure campers safety and security throughout the day.
Complete all necessary forms (accident, incident) in a timely and accurate manner.
Represent the City of Richmond Hill by presenting yourself in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well-groomed manner.
Report to work promptly.
Wear assigned uniform and name tag.
Attend scheduled staff meetings and staff training sessions.
Know and understand the policies and procedures of the Community Services Department.
Maintain excellent public relations at all time, with staff and the public.
Perform other duties as assigned
Required to work before care and after care shifts throughout the summer
Education and Experience
Candidates must be minimum 15 years of age.
Background experience and an eagerness to work with children
High Five PHCD Certification
Standard First Aid and CPR C
Required Skills/Knowledge
Strong leadership, communication, organization and decision making skills.
Ability to multi-task
May be required to successfully complete the Lifesaving Society Swim to survive Standard
Requires satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector check
Specialty camp staff are expected to demonstrate experience and knowledge in the applicable area.
