Unposting Date: 2025-12-10 11:59 PM Your role Radio-Canada Estrie is looking for an Associate Managing Editor who will work in close collaboration with the Chief of News and Programming. This position is based in Sherbrooke and will be under the supervision of the Senior Director for Estrie, Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec. It is a one-year replacement. In this role, you will need to have extensive experience in journalism and demonstrate impeccable editorial judgment. You will be responsible for overseeing the production of news content across digital platforms, radio, and television. A deep understanding of our various platforms is a valuable asset for this position. You will also need to demonstrate strong leadership, positive interpersonal skills, and the ability to maintain a harmonious and respectful work environment. You will be expected to support the different teams on a daily basis, ensuring compliance with journalistic standards and practices, and alignment with the strategic direction set by management. Please note that the position is a temporary, full-time, one-year job. Main responsibilities: Communicate the general strategic objectives, specifically those related to the news sector, editorial line, digital media, investigative journalism, and continuous news coverage. Establish an action plan to achieve these objectives and ensure follow-up with teams. Ensure constant alignment and follow-up regarding the editorial vision with journalists and editorial desks. Be the primary point of contact for questions regarding topic selection, angles, resources, field deployments, staffing choices, etc. Support, guide, mobilize, and motivate journalistic teams to propose and develop relevant stories for citizens. Ensure optimal visibility of multiplatform content. Participate in the development plans for journalists. Participate in daily assignment meetings. Ensure consistent follow-up on our news production across digital platforms, radio, and television. Replace the Chief of News and Programming in their absence. Participate in the performance management process of staff and, if necessary, propose measures to improve performance. Participate in the hiring processes for new employees in collaboration with the Chief of News and Programming. Supervise new employees and interns, ensure the smooth functioning of teams on a daily basis, and ensure technical needs are met. Manage and validate schedules and identify challenges and risks on the ground in conjunction with the Chief of News and Programming. Sit on various local, regional, and national committees as requested and carry out any other tasks assigned by management. Assist the Chief of News in communications with the legal department. Participate in the creation of schedules. The selected candidate will be required to respond to emergencies in the evening and on alternate weekends. Your profile: A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field or equivalent experience Ten (10) years of experience in journalism In-depth knowledge of journalism and show production Excellent knowledge of journalistic standards and practices, their application, and information handling Excellent knowledge of the Estrie region and a solid network of contacts Creativity, boldness, and agility in developing innovative solutions, evaluating work methods, and creating new processes Knowledge of effective management techniques and change management Leadership skills to mobilize, unite, and inspire creative and motivated teams Proven ability to support employee development and provide constructive feedback Ability to manage sensitive issues confidentially Positive attitude and solution-oriented leadership Experience in management is an asset Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
