JOB SUMMARY The Digital Solutions Data Coordinator contributes to the development, implementation and support of health research studies and research data platforms and solutions for the Faculty of Medicine research community. Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, the Digital Solutions Data Coordinator will be an integral part of the team by managing, developing, maintaining and enhancing data operations for the Faculty of Medicine. Digital Solutions Data Coordinator will work closely with internal and external members to provide leadership on data development, management, linkage and integration expertise on various Electronic Data Capture (EDC) platforms of the Digital Solutions Group. This position sits within the Advanced Data & Analytics portfolio in Digital Solutions Group to supports clinical researchers and research groups within the UBC and Health sector research communities. This position reports to the Service Delivery Manager and requires extensive contact with faculty, staff, and students. WORK PERFORMED Consults with researchers and other key stakeholders, to capture data management requirements, such as data planning, collection, processing and compliance, pertaining to the Faculty of Medicine data platforms, software and tools in support of good data management practices. Trains research staff and Investigators on good data management practices, organizes educational and training workshops on various EDC. Educates, promotes and assists research teams in the development of Data Management Plans (DMP), ensuring health research data is finable, sharable and preserved for future use to meet public funding requirements. Supports research teams on the use of EDC platforms through the research lifecycle. When required follows appropriate programming / development methodologies and best practices for delivery of fully managed data services. Manages and maintains inputs and databases in EDC platform including creating and modifying reports Makes changes as needed to research projects on FoM (Faculty of Medicine) EDC platforms for various data collection instruments, including programming skip patterns and logic checks when required. Creates and maintains data dictionaries for managed data project. Develops Electronic Case Report Form (eCRF) until finalization along with research team members, this includes eCRF guidelines according to design of the eCRF and manual development for study protocols. Develops, tests, implements and executes procedures, methodologies, programs and scripts in support of EDC platforms and maintains required validation state. Assists in database upgrades/migrations including performing user acceptance tests. Trouble-shoots database issues with EDC vendor until resolution is obtained. Participates in research meetings to discuss and/or advise on study design and survey preparation. Follow best practices for maintaining data in a secure environment. Performs security and audit checks for research projects including project archiving activities. Writes standard operating procedures for data management. Performs other related duties as required. CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR The incumbent is expected to understand data management procedures and institutional and regulatory policies around the management of research data. Consequences of error could translate to prolonged downtimes of mission critical applications at the individual, organizational or provincial level. Impact of decisions would affect the integrity of the research data, adherence to regulatory procedures and potentially risk privacy and confidentiality of the research participants, possibly lead to additional operating costs, and/or negatively impacting UBC's reputation. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general direction of the Team Lead Research Data Management and Service Delivery Manager. Must be able to work independently and carry out work to completion. Keeps the Manager informed of the status of work in progress. Works on tasks to meet deadlines on various projects. Work is reviewed in terms of achievement of desired results. SUPERVISION GIVEN This position works as a member of the Faculty of Medicine Digital Solution group and from time to time may provide supervision to intern and work learn students. This position may require the training of newly hired staff on Faculty of Medicine’s EDC platforms. Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. - Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own - Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion Preferred Qualifications -At least two (2) years' experience developing and managing research studies and databases using software for clinical research (such as REDCap, OpenSpecimen or similar). Understanding of the academic research process acquired through both practical and/or academic experience. Extensive experience implementing and conducting training programs for staff. As this position involves extensive stakeholder interaction in person, via phone, video conferencing technologies and email, as well as documentation creation, excellent written and verbal English communication skills are critical. Hands-on experience both analyzing health research data and recommending data solutions according to industry standard data models and in support of industry transaction standards. Strong problem analysis and solution design skills. Ability to analyze and interpret data, determine implications, and provide recommendations. Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills. Able to multi-task and deliver multiple assignments in a fast-paced and changing environment. Advanced knowledge of clinical trial process and data management process. Involvement in the implementation of large projects, training and managing staff. Excellent communication skills; ability to work in a team environment with medical personnel, clinical monitors, statisticians, programmers, and medical writers. Proficiency in regulatory guidelines, agencies, Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
