The Department of Surgery, Division of Neurosurgery at St. Michael’s Hospital is inviting applications for the position of Assistant/ Associate Professor.
The anticipated start date is summer of 2027.
We are seeking an academically oriented neurosurgeon with fellowship training in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery, with a specific focus on endoscopic spine surgical techniques. Additional expertise in spinal oncology, spinal trauma, and advanced technologies—including navigation, robotics, and biologic repair—is highly desirable. The successful candidate will join a dynamic multidisciplinary spine program and will contribute to the continued growth and innovation of the spine service at St. Michael’s Hospital. Candidates must hold certification in Neurosurgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or a recognized equivalent certifying body and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. A graduate degree at the level of a PhD or equivalent research-focused training is preferred, particularly in areas related to spinal cord injury, regenerative medicine, or surgical innovation. Preference will be given to individuals committed to pursuing a dual career as both surgeon and scientist, with at least 50% of their time dedicated to academic activities.
Applicants should demonstrate a strong record of clinical excellence, scholarly productivity, and a commitment to teaching and mentorship. The ideal candidate will complement existing strengths within the St. Michael’s spine program, contributing new expertise in minimally invasive and endoscopic surgical approaches and supporting the program’s emphasis on evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Remuneration and rank as a member of the clinical faculty will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Research start-up funding will be provided, aligned with the credentials and experience of the successful applicant. Remuneration is largely related to clinical activity.
