The Opportunity We are seeking a Senior Specialist – Records Retention & Data Loss for a newly created position in Markham. This role is critical for supporting the Data Governance Office (DGO) in implementing governance strategies, policies, standards, and adoption processes. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in data risk control frameworks, record retention, and data loss prevention (DLP), and will play a key role in building and documenting processes to ensure compliance and mitigate risk. What you’ll do Support the DGO in executing data governance strategy, policies, standards, and adoption processes. Build and maintain data risk control frameworks and governance processes. Perform self-assessments of data risk and document findings. Escalate and remediate issues related to data loss and accidental data exposure. Design and implement procedures and guidance for data governance and risk management. Deliver projects focused on data loss prevention and accidental data loss mitigation. Collect and document data mediation for known issues, including retention, governance, privacy, and data transfers. Work with internal and external teams, including third-party vendors, to ensure compliance. Collaborate with audit teams and perform control testing. Build artifacts, templates, and reporting views for governance outputs. What you’ll bring Strong knowledge of data governance standards, frameworks, and risk management. Expertise in record retention, data loss prevention (DLP), and accidental data loss mitigation. Experience with data classification, control testing, and risk event management. Ability to work across teams and manage initial program issues. Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as OSFI E21 and E23. Excellent communication skills—comfortable presenting to business leaders. What makes you stand out Experience delivering projects related to data loss prevention and governance processes.
