Role Summary
We are building an exciting new software defined vehicle architecture and looking for talented and motivated engineers to join our team. Come help shape the future of automotive by contributing to one of the most advanced platforms in the industry. More specifically our team is building modern applications in Rust and we are looking for someone with strong Rust experience to help grow our team’s capabilities. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, is eager to learn, and enjoys collaboration.
This role offers a unique opportunity to be a Rust evangelist within the organization. As Rust becomes a critical component of our software ecosystem, you will play a pivotal role in advocating for its adoption, mentoring colleagues on its best practices, and driving its integration into new projects. Your expertise and enthusiasm will not only shape the technical direction of our team but also help establish Rust as a cornerstone of our innovative platform.
Responsibilities
Become a key person to evangelist Rust
Adept in async Rust support
Design and implementation of embedded applications in Rust
Maintenance and problem solving of existing Rust applications
Support teams integrating with our libraries and applications
Coordinate and plan tasks
What we need...
Long experience with the Rust language
Adept at Rust best practices and paradigms
Knowledge of Embedded Rust is a plus
Knowledge of Rust-related CI, esp GitLab is a plus
Strong Git skills (repo tools, submodules, git-lfs)
Experience with Cargo/Crates build system and package management
Knowledge of Bazel is a plus
What you will do to evangelize Rust...
Review and advise on best Rust practices across the company
Build proofs of concept to showcase how specific problems could be solved
Build Rust-focused CI templates for building/validating/linting/testing/code coverage/publishing/...
Qualifications
BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
Proficient with Linux
Bonus Skills
Arm64 (OSX/embedded) cross compiling experience
Bazel experience is a plus
Experience with messaging systems such as MQTT, and especially NATS

Pay Disclosure
Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Vancouver, British Columbia & Toronto Based Applicants: 137,300 - 171,600 CAD (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Full Time Employee coverage is effective on the first day of employment. Part-Time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
