The Opportunity
General Bank of Canada is looking for a permanent, fulltime Cloud Systems Administrator to join as a key contributor with the Bank’s Data, Technology & innovation team. Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Computing, the Cloud Systems Administrator is responsible for managing and optimizing General Bank of Canada's (GBC) cloud-based infrastructure and Microsoft 365 environment. This role works closely with other members of the DTI Enterprise Computing Services team and business users on projects and improvements to GBC systems, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability. Acting as an escalation point for the GBC Help Desk, the Cloud Systems Administrator resolves complex issues within their areas of responsibility and provides expert guidance.
Position Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure and Microsoft 365 Administration
Manage and optimize Microsoft 365 services and cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Administer Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), including identity management, access controls, and conditional access policies.
Configure and maintain security protocols for cloud services to ensure compliance and data protection.
Monitor system health and performance across cloud platforms; implement proactive maintenance and capacity planning.
Automation and DevOps Practices
Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts and automation workflows for routine administrative tasks.
Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for provisioning and configuration management using tools such as Terraform, Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, and Google Cloud Deployment Manager.
Collaborate with the Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) and Senior Infrastructure Specialist to integrate Development and Operations (DevOps) practices into system operations.
Automate deployment pipelines for Microsoft 365 and multi-cloud services (Azure and GCP) using CI/CD methodologies.
User Support and Escalation
Act as an escalation point for the General Bank of Canada (GBC) Help Desk on issues related to Microsoft 365 and cloud infrastructure.
Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for complex incidents.
Deliver training and documentation for end-users and IT staff on cloud tools and best practices.
Security and Compliance
Enforce security baselines for Microsoft 365, Azure, and GCP environments, ensuring compliance across multi-cloud infrastructure.
Conduct regular audits of cloud configurations to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
Implement data retention, backup, and disaster recovery strategies for cloud services.
Planning and Continuous Improvement
Participate in projects to enhance reliability and scalability across multi-cloud environments (Azure and GCP).
Research emerging technologies such as automation tools and artificial intelligence-driven monitoring and assess their applicability.
Contribute to governance frameworks for cloud resource management and cost optimization.
Leadership
Responsible for training new employees or team members.
Leads specific projects or initiatives without direct supervisory or leadership duties.
What You Bring to the Table
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology (IT), or a related field.
5–7 years of experience in IT systems administration, with at least 2 years focused on Microsoft 365 administration, SaaS platform management and cloud operations.
Proven experience managing M365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive) and related security/compliance features.
Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) administration, including Managing IAM roles and service accounts, configuring storage buckets and networking, Monitoring and optimizing GCP workloads
Strong knowledge of Azure Active Directory (identity, access management, conditional access policies).
Experience with M365 security and compliance center, data loss prevention (DLP), and retention policies.
Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for automation of M365 tasks and SaaS integrations.
Understanding of SaaS lifecycle management, license optimization, and vendor governance.
Solid grasp of IT security principles, MFA, and Zero Trust concepts.
Excellent troubleshooting skills for M365 and SaaS-related issues.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert, Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator, or equivalent.
Experience integrating SaaS platforms with the M365 ecosystem.
Familiarity with Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune) for device and app management.
Exposure to automation tools (Power Automate, Logic Apps) for workflow optimization.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $81,574 to $101,967. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.
