This position, reporting to the Finance Manager, is responsible for preparing financial analytics and will contribute to the development of financial recommendations for operational areas. Key activities include developing spreadsheets for financial planning and forecasting, preparing budget submissions, completing month end and completing variance reporting. The role offers the opportunity to collaborate with various business partners and contribute to the financial success of the organization.
What will you do?
Provide on-going accounting support for a municipally-owned utility
Support the team, as the point of contact, on work with various external utilities including review of reports, rate filings, budget and miscellaneous projects
Prepare month end and year end tasks to meet corporate timelines
Conduct analysis of monthly results, budgets, actuals, one time items and any additional analysis, as needed to meet corporate reporting requirements
Participate in the preparation and maintenance of capital profiles, ensuring funding options are considered
Provide support in analysis of cost drivers and identifying potential areas where financial issues may occur
Conduct analysis of data to support budget adjustments ensuring that any rate changes are identified
Conduct comparisons, benchmarking, forecasting, projections, recovery ratios and links to related agreements
Update information into the corporate budget system and the supporting documentation
Prepare supporting analysis for the annual utility rate filings
Other related responsibilities
Professional designation is required CPA, CA, CMA or CGA
Minimum three years of progressively responsible related accounting experience preferably within the public sector and utility environment
Assets:
Large corporation experience
Capital accounting experience including capital financial planning and budgeting
Experience working with month end tasks and variance reporting

Familiarity with Accounting Standards
Knowledge and experience with Google Sheets, Docs and Slides
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel, SAP and related systems
Thorough understanding of general accounting activities (operating and capital)
Thorough knowledge of corporate and departmental policy and procedures
Thorough knowledge of corporate financial system and inter-relationships to departmental accounting
Significant experience and proficiency in major financial and analytical software systems
High level analytical and conceptual skills to identify and resolve complex financial problems
Compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, CICA Handbook, IFRS and Public Accounting Standards recommendations
Must have a good working knowledge of most City functions and the type of work each department provides
Strong problem solving skills and effective communication
Excellent customer service while ensuring adherence to professional standards
Ability to effectively communicate and maintain working relationships with all levels of management and non-management personnel

Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
