The Heidelberg Materials Northwest Region (NWR) cement group is seeking a data and logistics passionate professional who is interested in growing their career, driving transformational change, and enhancing our group’s understanding of and visibility into the logistics decisions that (literally!) drive our business. This role will report directly to and receive extensive guidance, training, and support from the Senior Manager of Marketing and Customer Services. It will provide frequent and critical support to the Logistics Manager and is expected to liaison on an ad-hoc basis with other more senior roles including the VP of Cement Sales & Logistics, the Sales Administration Supervisor, and the Marketing Services Analyst. Work Environment 100% on-site role based at the cement plant in Edmonton, AB. Assigned personal office room and free on-site parking. No travel expectations or requirements. Collaborative professional office environment. What you’ll be doing 50% - Advancing the technical capabilities of the NW Region Cement Logistics group by: Auditing existing logistics department functions to identify opportunities to streamline and/or automate manual tasks. Assisting in the development of logistical models, reports, or documents. Reviewing corporate-issued logistics reports for accuracy, appropriateness, and reconciling with local logistics metrics and KPIs. Identifying and resolving gaps within existing Logistics metrics/KPIs. Collaborating with 3rd party carriers to develop data streams that will interface with existing corporate resources. Enhancing inventory tracking across NWR. Developing logistics dashboards to bring new insight and transparency into the financial and business impacts behind product movement decisions. 30% - Completing administrative functions for NW Region Cement including the: Maintaining of rail, truck, and barge shipment rates in SAP. Maintaining and reconciling rail carrier statements. Reviewing and coding rail invoices. Handling vendor inquiries. Recording and reconciling if/as needed inventories at select cement terminals. Preparing shipment reports to carriers as needed. Liaising with Cement Operations and Sales to keep logistics planning tools current. 20% - Supporting the NW Region Cement sales group in non-logistic specific tasks and reporting including: Generating and distributing recurring (generally monthly) sales reports Generating ad-hoc sales reports if/as required Acting as backup to the Marketing Analyst for the generation and distribution of reports in the eventuality of their absence. Assisting the Senior Manager of Marketing & Customer Service and the Marketing Analyst in the development of new data pipelines, databases, dashboards, apps, and more. What Are We Looking For Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field including logistics, business, accounting, statistics, computer science, or related. Interest in all things data and logistics. A passion for identifying and enacting process improvements and automation. Advanced level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, notably Excel and PowerPoint. Comfort in working with large data sets (including all phases of ETL, processing, and visualizing). Self-motivated with a continuous improvement approach to work responsibilities. Strong attention to detail with demonstrated organization and time management skills Ability to meet deadlines and handle evolving requests. Nice to Have Related work experience in the building materials industry and/or logistics. Experience in the use of SAP ERPs and related tools. Experience in the development of automated data pipelines, staging, and dashboards (ex: PowerBI, Tableau). Scripting experience (ex: Python, VBA).
