Detailed OverviewAs a member of a multidisciplinary community mental health team, the Psychologist will report to the Manager, Clinical Services, or designate. The Psychologist has full program development responsibility, including providing a full range of psychological services for Group Therapy Services, treatment of complex cases, and consultation and psycho-diagnostic assessments. The Psychologist, psychiatrists and other clinical staff plan and deliver treatment services for adults who are suffering from emotional, psychological, behavioral and/or psychiatric illness. The psychologist also contributes to continuous quality improvement, program evaluation, staff education, and supervision of psychology students and psychiatry residents.
Responsibilities - In charge of psychological services for the assigned program, coordinates the development, management, and provision of psychology services through methods such as analyzing treatment needs and establishing and maintaining policies, procedures, and guidelines. Participates in ongoing development evidence-based group therapy services.
- Using standardized, evidence-based interview and assessment procedures, provides comprehensive psychological assessment of psychopathology and personality, as well as cognitive, academic, vocational and behaviour issues.
- Provides psychotherapy in individual sessions with mental health clients with complex therapy needs.
- Offers consultation to colleagues on assessment and treatment issues.
- Supervises graduate students in Clinical Psychology, and psychiatry residents in the provision of group therapy services.
- Support the development of evidence-based clinical guidelines and pathways for mental health clients by methods such as monitoring and evaluating their effectiveness.
- Provides educational programs to the multidisciplinary team and to the community on treatment for prevention and early intervention for clients with mental illness.
- Produces and maintains confidential client clinical records in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Supports the development of evidence-based clinical guidelines and pathways for mental health clients.
- Participates as a member of local committees and planning bodies.
- Participates in ongoing clinical research to keep program content current and relevant. Prepares and presents reports and proposals that support clinical practice, research, and evaluation.
- Maintains broad development in the profession by methods such as reviewing literature regarding individual and group therapy, consulting with clinical and research experts within the field, evaluating clinical practice and participating in professional development activities to improve care through new practices.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Current registration, or eligible for registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (CHCPBC). Two years recent, related experience, with an emphasis in program development and provision of group therapy services.
Valid Class V BC Driver's license and possession of personal vehicle with appropriate business insurance coverage.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge and skills in the development and provision of group therapy programs.
- Demonstrated ability in using and interpreting psycho-diagnostic techniques related major mental illnesses and personality pathology.
- Experience with evidence-based psychotherapy.
- Comprehensive knowledge of assessment and diagnosis of mental illness and of clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of various disorders.
- Ability to prepare written assessments and provide treatment recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability in implementing policies and procedures.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work with clients.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to keep abreast of technological developments in the field to ensure high standards of client care.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Code of Conduct, By-laws and other legislative documents issued by the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia.
- Ability to operate related equipment, including computer software.
- Physical and mental ability to perform the duties of the position.
