We are looking for a Senior Strategic Business Planner to join the Business Analytics and Performance team in the Department Strategy Section of Community Services.
Working closely with the Section Leadership Team, and with leaders in the Community Services Department you will develop, implement, and refine the city’s business plans, budgets, performance measures, and risk strategies. What will you do?
Develop, implement and support business planning, performance, budget, and risk management processes for the department
Design and facilitate strategic discussions to translate corporate direction into actionable plans
Develop strategies and educational tools that increase employee understanding of the City's Strategic Planning Framework
Review and analyze branch and department initiatives, plans, and existing policies, providing strategic advice and recommendations
Coordinate risk management by creating and updating risk registers, developing evaluation tools, and providing regular reports
Design and implement performance measurement aligned with both corporate and departmental needs
Identify, implement and monitor business process improvements
Support the development of council reports, business cases, capital profiles and service packages
Help leadership build employee awareness of the Strategic Planning Framework and enable strategic and data-driven decision-making
Other duties as assigned
University degree in Business Administration, Humanities, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in strategic and business planning, and related areas
Assets:
Systems thinking and experience facilitating strategic conversations with senior leaders to gather essential information for business planning, risk management and performance measurement
Advanced level knowledge of primary and secondary research methodology, including design and implementation, data collection, and trend and result analysis and presentation
Managing projects using established protocols and project management techniques

Exceptional ability to navigate ambiguity and proactively adjust strategies in response to rapidly changing departmental or corporate priorities
Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions of an advanced nature and ability to express complex policy ideas and concepts effectively
Skills and expertise leading integrated teams in collaborative business plan development
Interpersonal skills with ability to build effective working relationships with all levels of management and provide planning and reporting advice to senior leaders
Ability to identify and implement imaginative and effective solutions to complex challenges
Organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects/processes with competing deadlines
Ability to analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to inform strategic decision-making and performance measurement

Work Environment:
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
The work environment is primarily office-based, with minimal physical effort required
The successful candidate will be required to use a computer and other standard office equipment regularly
