Operations Supervisor As an Operations Supervisor you will be supervising a group of welding and machining personnel in the manufacturing of custom products made to customer and engineering specifications, quality requirements, within cost/budget restraints and on schedule. Ensures continuous efficient production in desired quantity and quality. Assures that there are adequate materials, supplies, tools and equipment. Monitors work in process to ensure efficient flow. Assists in determining labour and skills needed so those schedules are maintained. Your Challenge: Liaise and coordinate with appropriate support functions concerning production planning and resource/skill allocation to ensure delivery of products to schedule, cost and within all relevant quality specifications. Demonstrated experience in process improvements/projects and a passion for disciplined/practical problem solving skills. Recommend improvements to methods, equipment, fixtures, test rigs, tooling, including developing preventative maintenance program/procedures and challenging allotted time standards when necessary. Deal with personnel issues including interaction with the Union in line with Company Policies and Agreements. Ensure plant activities are carried out in a safe, orderly manner. Provide input to the Manager for the preparation of departmental budgets. Must have ability to work within the confines of the existing Collective Agreement. Monitor all hours worked, track attendance and balance overtime of direct reports. Ensure all trade qualifications are up-to-date and records maintained. Ensure all direct reports work according to the Quality Management System (TMS). Must be able to work overtime and occasional Saturdays. Take every reasonable precaution to protect the health and safety of direct reports including the establishment of safe work procedures including: Education of staff and the orientation of new workers. Appointment of competent supervision. Performance of frequent workplace inspections. Immediate reporting of accidents and incidents and participation in their investigations. Initiation of action required to correct substandard conditions What You Bring: Computer skills using Microsoft Word and Excel. Written and oral communication skills mandatory. Understanding and experienced with computerized ERP systems. Ability to read drawings and understanding of manufacturing processes. Minimum 5 years related supervisory experience in welding and machine shop environments. Qualified under CSA W47.1 and CSA W47.2. Ability to ensure the company’s welding procedures covering all joints, processes and positions are current and approved by CWB and/or other governing bodies. Ensure that quality and workmanship are up to the levels specified by the design and/or customer requirements. Knowledge of how to prepare, read and use Welding Procedure Data Sheets (WPDS). Knowledge of identification of faulty welds and how to prevent them. Knowledge of welding inspection methods – visual and NDT (LPI, UT, MRT and RT). Knowledge of CNC machinery and software, grinders, drill presses, lathes. Experience working within quality system as prescribe by ISO 9001.
