Hours of Work Up to 40 hours per week Contract Length Up to 8 months (approximately late March through October) Department Roads, Parks & Forestry Location This position is required to work in person at the RPF Operations Centre, 3330 Harvester Road, Burlington, Ontario. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Position Overview Equipment Operators support a variety of tasks related to the upkeep of parks, flower and shrub beds, sports fields, cemeteries, and park amenities. They are responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and servicing of motorized vehicles and equipment. This position will be responsible for operating the water truck. Responsibilities In this role, you will be responsible for the following key duties: Water and care for horticulture beds during evenings, overnight, and weekends in parks and within the road allowance. Maintain vehicles, equipment, and attachments safely and efficiently, in accordance with standard operating procedures and safe work practices. Operate City vehicles and equipment, including pickup trucks, water trucks, garbage trucks, mowers, tractors, trailers, and associated attachments, as required. Collect litter and empty garbage receptacles in parks, playgrounds, parking lots, and along roadsides. Open, close, inspect, clean, and disinfect public washroom facilities. Operate handheld equipment, power tools, and hand tools for grass cutting, sports field maintenance, and general park upkeep. Perform daily equipment checks, carry out minor repairs as prescribed, and schedule major repairs through the Supervisor. Participate in loose leaf collection and winter control operations, if required. Complete administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner, including daily activity sheets, training documentation, and other required paperwork. Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Highway Traffic Act, and relevant Federal, Provincial, and City regulations, policies, and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements This position requires you to work overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts (10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.) You have a high school diploma, or equivalent along with 1 to 2 years of demonstrated equipment experience related to park, horticultural or sports field maintenance. You bring strong oral and written communication skills, customer service and problem-solving abilities to this role. Your effective time management skills and flexibility to adapt to a variety of tasks is an asset. You work well as part of a team and minimal supervision. You must be physically capable of performing required duties, which include working in all weather conditions. A valid DZ driver’s licence is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire).
