The Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research is an interdisciplinary research institute where scientists make fundamental discoveries in biology to improve health. Our faculty, staff and trainees come from various fields of science and collaborate to develop and apply cutting-edge tools in genome research, regenerative medicine and computational biology, ultimately to gain new insights about how the human body works. Founded in 2005, the Centre is globally recognized as a leading biomedical research hub thanks to our researchers' landmark discoveries in genetics, stem cells and the molecular basis of disease, as well as state-of-the-art tools in analysis of large-scale datasets.
As Financial Assistant, you will play an integral role in ensuring compliance with the University’s financial regulations and guidelines for the Donnelly Centre. You will work closely with the financial team to process a variety of financial activities and prepare information for budget planning and reporting. Your organizational, analytical, and strong attention to detail will help us advance our goals and objectives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Recording, processing, and reconciling detailed financial transactions across many accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Processing invoices, journal entries, purchase orders, expenses reimbursements, and casual payroll transactions, in accordance with University policies and timelines
- Verifying the accuracy of accounts payable and receivable activities, including reconciliation of purchasing card statements
- Monitoring budgets and expenditures across multiple accounts, including restricted funds, and identifying and resolving financial discrepancies
- Gathering and preparing financial information and reports to support budget planning, and the analysis of financial processes and procedures, including recommending improvements
- Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines to financial activities
- Liaising with stakeholders to resolve financial, restricted fund administration, and reporting issues
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum two (2) years relevant administrative and financial support experience, preferably in a research environment
- Demonstrated experience recording and reconciling detailed financial transactions across multiple accounts
- Demonstrated experience processing invoices, expense reimbursements, purchase orders and journal entries
- Demonstrated experience reconciling purchasing card statements
- Demonstrated experience verifying accounts payable and receivable activity
- Demonstrated experience supporting payroll processing, including collecting and verifying documentation for payroll processing
- Demonstrated understanding of financial management procedures and accounting principles, with experience applying policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders
- Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills with the ability to exercise good judgment, tact and diplomacy
- Demonstrated professionalism and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
