Position Specific Description
NextEra Energy is currently seeking a Wind Turbine Controls and SCADA Technical Specialist who can apply diversified knowledge of OEM level controls, SCADA principles, and IT/OT concepts to a broad variety of assignments supporting wind power generation. The employee is responsible for independently interpreting, organizing, and executing assignments supporting wind turbine individual and site-level communication and control. This role is also responsible for providing technical guidance, support, and mentoring to other team members as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business objectives. Typical assignments will be across the entire asset lifecycle, primarily focusing on operational and end-of-life IT/OT and SCADA assets such as SCADA systems, PLC’s, communication networks, wind turbine generator controllers, supporting networked applications, and associated virtualized environments.
The successful candidate will have a sense of accountability and urgency required to make informed decisions regarding safety, regulatory compliance, system integrity, and technical scope under limited supervision. Alternative position levels are available for the right candidate
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Plans and develops engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial complexities which have important impact on major company programs:
Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) on technical matters within and outside the organization, acting independently in decision-making
Provides technical direction and support to operations, business units, and field personnel
Leads system testing and documentation for control system changes and upgrades
Diagnoses and resolves complex application deficiencies, system issues, and operational challenges
Designs, implements, and optimizes control solutions for wind farm operations
Supports automation engineering initiatives for failure mitigation, process improvement, data analytics, and performance optimization
Develops and enforces internal process standards and best practices
Establishes and maintains procedures and guidelines supporting controls and SCADA users
Troubleshoots and repairs complex computer and OT communication system issues related to power system operations
Identifies, analyzes, and resolves network, database, protocol, and application issues
Ensures compliance with NERC, FERC, and other applicable regulatory standards related to SCADA and communications
Monitors and resolves infrastructure performance, application connectivity, and security-related issues using specialized network diagnostic tools
Supports cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems and SCADA networks
Provides technical expertise for wind energy technology, turbine control systems, and grid integration
Collaborates cross-functionally with IT, field operations, and external vendors to ensure seamless integration and performance
Assists with labor and materials estimates, bid reviews, and oversight of contracted services
Champions a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with all health and safety guidelines
Travels to wind sites as needed for onsite troubleshooting and project execution
Completes assignments with broad objectives and minimal supervision
Required Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years in related fields
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience with power generation equipment, power fundamentals, and control schemes
Working experience with GE WindSCADA and ControlST, Siemens WPS, Vestas VOB and Online Toolkit
Knowledge of communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Valid state Driver’s license and ability to acquire passport
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
Six Sigma Certified – Green Belt
Six Sigma Certified – Black Belt or Master Black Belt
Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering or Computer Science
Master’s Degree – Engineering

Provides technical leadership in the functional specification, design and implementation of new (as well as enhancements to existing) security center applications and tools
Develops new (and improves existing) processes with goal of increasing productivity, reducing risk of system failure, promoting efficiency in work flow, and meeting or exceeding the key operational performance targets
Establishes, documents and maintains procedures and guidelines related to the day-to-day operational support provided to the operations and business unit personnel
Travels to power plants for onsite troubleshooting support
Performs other job-related duties as assigned

The estimated base pay for this position is $103,200.00 to $154,800.00 per year. Starting pay will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, experience, qualifications, job-related and industry knowledge and skills and education/training.
