The Instrumentation Lab/Shop Supervisor position is a technical specialist who identifies, resolves and/or coordinates the resolution of hardware and software problems for instrumentation systems. The Supervisor is responsible for providing service to the Instrumentation Engineering Technology and Instrument and Control Technician Apprenticeship programs by ensuring the availability and reliability of all Instrumentation labs/shops, assisting in strategic planning for all the labs/shops, and maintaining contacts with vendors.
As a Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing staff, coordinating work, setting priorities, performance management, etc.
Key Responsibilities: - Provide technical expertise to department staff with regards to the use of the Instrumentation hardware and software.
- Maintain laboratories/shops, servers and workstations.
- Provide assistance in developing laboratories/shops with academic staff.
- Plan network and laboratory/shop upgrades and expansions.
- Supervise staff, evaluate performance, manage and coordinate the work in the area, etc.
- Coordinate activities with other IT management teams.
- Maintain leading edge technical knowledge of instrumentation systems.
- Use asset management and controls using Peoplesoft.
Skills & Abilities: - Experience and competency with a range of instrumentation hardware and software.
- Strong attention to detail and service nature with the ability to work in a team environment are essential.
- Strong time management, organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong oral & written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal & team building skills.
- Ability to procure and source quotes.
- Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted.
Qualifications: - Related post-secondary education in Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Control Technician or related field.
- Five years of directly related experience would be desirable.
- Previous supervisory experience is desirable.
- Equivalences may be considered.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
Remuneration: $71,125.34 - $95,647.76 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Computer Systems Support Technologist Supervisor).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
