Description:
The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital are seeking applications for the Brazilian Ball Chair in Cardiology at St.Michael’s Hospital-Unity Health Toronto. The successful candidate must currently hold a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor and an active Scientist appointment at Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital. This is a five-year, renewable once, joint University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital endowed chair. The tentative start date of this appointment isMarch 1, 2026, or shortly thereafter.
The successful candidate will be an internationally recognized scientist with the ability to lead a world-class research program related to cardiology that aligns with the strategic priorities of Unity Health Toronto. This may include research that advances our fundamental understanding of cardiovascular diseases, improving diagnostic or treatment options, and enhancing patient outcomes. The candidate must not concurrently hold a comparable award.
Applicants will be evaluated by an Appointments Committee according to University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital policies. Consideration will be given to the applicant’s record of scholarly activity (including but not limited to grants, peer-reviewed publications, program development, collaborations with organizations nationally and internationally, supervision of graduate students and fellows, teaching) and contributions to the field. Professionalism and contributions to St. Michael’s Hospital and the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science/Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute (KRCBS/LKSKI) will also be considered.
The endowed chair will provide approximately $120,000 year, which will be used to offset any salary support of the incumbent, if applicable. Any remaining funds may be used to support the academic activities and/or interests of the incumbent, which may include research operations and education events.
