Detailed OverviewThe Activity Coordinator, in partnership with other members of the C.A.C. Interdisciplinary Team, plans, implements, monitors, and revises recreation programs that provide residents/patients with opportunities to maintain and improve their physical, mental, spiritual and social well being.
Responsibilities
- Plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates recreation programs that meet the needs of residents, such as community outings, arts and crafts, word games, cooking, gardening, exercise, sports, discussions, and pool programs.
- Prepares food items with residents by counting, weighing and/or measuring ingredients, mixing beverage and food items and assembling food items. Portions out and serves food and beverages.
- Prepares for and accompanies residents on community outings by performing duties such as ensuring that residents have appropriate clothing, necessary equipment, and funds for activities.
- Supervises up to four Activity Workers I and/or II by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments, determining training and orientation requirements, providing performance feedback and information related to employee performance evaluation.
- Schedules work assignments of and provides direction to volunteers, including training and orientation duties ensuring standardization of procedures.
- Collaborates with Czorny team during the "move in" process by performing duties such as taking leisure histories, reviewing background information, and preparing leisure assessments for use in developing goals with residents to enhance their quality of life by maintaining and improving physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual functioning.
- Maintains and balances petty cash account and makes disbursements as required.
- Exchanges information during interdisciplinary committee meetings, team conferences, family meetings, and other resident-focused conferences on matters related to residents' needs, desires and responses to care provided. Reports observations, concerns, and changes in residents' conditions, abilities, and behaviours to appropriate team members.
- Monitors equipment, tools, materials, and supplies, checks for safety of same, and reports malfunctions and purchase requirements to the appropriate staff. Maintains work area in an orderly condition, cleaning and putting away equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Performs clerical and reception functions, including answering the telephone, greeting visitors, and recording resident attendance records and workload information.
- Provides feedback and suggestions to, and informs the interdisciplinary team of, resident issues and concerns.
- Participates in creating and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by understanding and following Health and Safety rules, regulations, and practices such as Fire, Disaster, WHMIS, and Infection Control.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation and ExperienceGraduation from a recognized recreational program, plus one (1) year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Successful completion of the Foodsafe Course.
