Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Community Development, the Communications & Consultation Specialist provides communications and consultation support for the First Nation, assisting with the development and implementation of a Community Communications Strategy. Additionally, this position develops, analyzes and implements the communications policies and strategies for Biigtigong Nishnaabeg with a goal of enhancing communication on behalf of all departments and the First Nation.
This is a full-time position with a contract duration of 18 months. Renewal or extension is subject to organizational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
The Communications & Consultation Specialist shall:
Provide strategic communications planning for Biigtigong Nishnaabeg
Coordinate and manage the bi-monthly community newsletter, communicate with members, and edit submissions
Manage the online community portal, coordinate training for staff
Create content including posters, videos, infographics, presentations, and more for a variety of community projects, consultations, and outreach activities
Provide centralized communications for Biigtigong Nishnaabeg members to access information and properly consult members
Coordinate the community calendar
Update the community website
Design event registration & related communications
Support the Biigtigong Language Project and other language programs and projects with website updates
Provide the Traditional Story Collection with research, photo, and video collection
Education and Experience
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business Management, Communications, Public Relations or related field
Experience in community outreach strategies and event and program coordination
Experience in project management
Necessary Knowledge
Knowledge of Biigtigong Nishnaabeg community, history, and values
Knowledge of social media tools and platforms
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft OneDrive
Website management is an asset
Knowledge of basic history and values of Biigtigong Nishnaabeg

Other conditions of employment
Valid G Driver's license with the ability to travel when necessary and provide own transportation
