Job Details Job Location: The Diner - Vancouver, WA Position Type: Full Time Salary Range: $17.00 - $18.00 Hourly Job Shift: Day Description Meals on Wheels People, a non-profit, enriches the lives of seniors and assists them in maintaining independence by providing nutritious food, human connections and social support. The Diner Vancouver is the first of its kind, offering seniors a place for intergenerational social interaction, support, and meals at no cost. The Diner’s mission is to create a sense of community through food and proudly serves a classic diner menu with a healthy, local twist. We are looking for a full-time cook to join our team at The Diner Vancouver. We are looking for a skilled individual who is a dependable team player. Must haves Minimum one-year relevant kitchen experience Passion for food, strong work ethic and desire to grow Current Food Handler’s card or ability to obtain one upon hire Proven customer service and communication skills Ability to perform during peak business hours (8 am-2 pm, Wed-Sun) Passion for serving seniors in our community What we offer Competitive pay plus an additional $7/hr. on weekends Benefits include Medical, Vision, Dental, wellness program, 401k Paid sick and vacation time Work-life balance: 2 consecutive days off! Qualifications Education & Knowledge High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate Degree or certification in Culinary Arts preferred Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods Current Food Handler’s card or ability to obtain one upon hire Current ServSafe certification or ability to obtain certification within 18 months of hire Strong knowledge of local, state and federal food sanitation standards Skills, Abilities & Experience Minimum one-year experience in food service cooking position Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment Proven customer service skills Experience working with diverse populations, including aging, minority and low-income populations Good verbal and written communication skills Proven recordkeeping and organizational skills Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and 20-30lbs repetitively Passion for serving seniors in our community Working Conditions/Physical Demands Fast paced kitchen environment, with significant people interaction. Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs and 20-30lbs repetitively. Frequent reaching, bending, stooping and grasping. Frequent use of knives and cooking utensils, stove, oven and other kitchen equipment. Must pass drug screen and criminal background check.
