Position Overview
We are seeking a
Director Distribution Operations with expertise in
transportation and distribution strategy. This role is focused on high-level oversight, guiding the leaders of our distribution centers in Calgary and Langley, a cross-dock in Edmonton, and additional remote yards. This position will drive strategic initiatives in transportation, mentor regional leaders, and ensure that distribution aligns with company goals for efficiency, cost savings, and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Oversight:
- Develop and implement transportation and distribution strategies that optimize efficiency, service, and cost-effectiveness across Western Canada.
- Provide guidance and oversight to the leadership teams at the Calgary and Langley distribution centers, Edmonton cross-dock, and remote yards, empowering them to execute operations aligned with strategic goals.
- Lead high-level reviews and performance assessments, ensuring that each facility’s leadership team has the resources and direction needed for success.
- Execution of Superior Customer Service to the Restaurants
- Ensure the completion on daily mandates to provide on time and on quality deliveries to our Restaurants
- Address problems with production or shipping delays, quality-control issues, such as damaged or improperly packed goods, and problems with warehouse capacity and client deadlines
- Ensure that all concerns raised from the Restaurants are addressed to ensure ongoing trust and commitment from our customers
- Provide and maintain strong customer service. Solve problems and execute continuous improving activities.
- People - Manage Teams and Engage in Cross Functional Partnerships
- Be present and available to employees; “manage by walking around”
- Manage, coach and develop management team including personal development and succession planning
- Provide direction and guidance to support the success of employees, including identifying areas of opportunities such as job instructions, retraining programs
- Motivate and inspire the team and drive engagement of the team with high touch in-person interactions
- Responsible to resolve conflict and to create a positive and productive team environment
- Provide timely and effective communication through staff meetings, individual interactions, as well as written and electronic communication
- Foster and sustain existing partnerships with support teams including IT and HR to reach collaborative decisions
- Transportation Strategy & Optimization:
- Oversee the strategic direction of transportation operations across all Western Canada sites, ensuring alignment with best practices in routing, capacity planning, and cost optimization.
- Establish KPIs for transportation efficiency and monitor performance, focusing on continuous improvement across all facilities.
- Identify and implement transportation innovations that enhance service reliability and efficiency across locations.
- Vendor & Carrier Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with regional carriers and 3PL partners, negotiating favorable contracts and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Implement vendor performance reviews and accountability measures, ensuring reliable and sustainable service from all partners.
- Financial Oversight & Cost Management:
- Set, manage, and monitor transportation and distribution budgets across Western Canada, identifying opportunities for cost savings without impacting service quality.
- Perform high-level financial analyses to assess and address cost efficiency, leading initiatives to optimize budget utilization.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with procurement, inventory management, finance, and customer service teams to align distribution goals with broader company objectives and maintain service standards.
Partner with sustainability and safety teams to promote eco-friendly and safe distribution practices throughout Western Canada.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: 8+ years of supply chain and transportation management experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior leadership role overseeing multi-site distribution operations.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), ERP systems, and data analysis tools.
- Leadership Skills: Proven track record in mentoring and developing leaders across multiple locations, with strong team-building skills.
- Analytical & Financial Skills: Expertise in budget management, cost analysis, and data-driven decision-making.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to influence, collaborate, and communicate across all organizational levels and functions.
- Preferred Experience: Knowledge of lean methodologies, sustainability in logistics, and compliance with safety standards.
