The Delta School District is currently accepting applications for Casual On-Call Education Assistants.
Reporting to the Principal and/or District Administrator, Inclusive Learning, and working under the direction of the classroom teacher(s), our Education Assistants participate as valuable members of a team in the ongoing implementation of inclusive learning opportunities, and play a key role with the classroom teacher in maintaining a culture of equity and success.
Duties
- Assists in developing students’ ability to access curriculum-based learning opportunities using universal/essential strategies with increasing independence.
- Assists the teacher with the implementation of educational plans such as IEPs, AIPs, Safety Plans, and Positive Behaviour Support Plans, including ABA-based educational plans.
- Provides basic personal care, such as feeding, dressing and toileting, administering medication, use of mobility devices, lift and transfer.
- Implements individual medical care/nursing care plans in school- or community-based locations.
- Maintains regular communications with the supervising teacher and other team members.
- With guidance of classroom teacher/case manager, observes and records student progress, and maintains detailed written records (i.e., scatterplot, behaviour analysis, administration of medication).
- Operates standard school, cafeteria/kitchen, and office equipment including computer applications, instructional aid communications, and special individualized equipment/technology.
- Participates with and supervises students in specialized or integrated settings, such as regular or resource classrooms, community-based life skills training, work experience sites, etc., and including activities in the gym, pool, playground, and other community sites.
- Works with students with cognitive, behavioural, emotional, communication, sensory and/or physical, health challenges.
- May be required to transport students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of an Education Assistant Certificate/Diploma Program from an accredited college/institute is required. A copy of your credentials and email contact information for 2 professional references must accompany your application.
Please note that Casual EAs are required to be available 5 days a week, Monday to Friday, for a variety of school and district EA assignments and will be eligible to apply for regular positions as they become available.
