The Faculty of Nursing invites applications for a CSLC Monitor Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Clinical Simulation Learning Centre (CSLC) at the Faculty of Nursing (main campus) is where Nursing students come to participate in labs and simulations in order to learn, practice and train in a safe, realistic, and immersive environment using state-of-the-art equipment and technology. The CSLC also manages Faculty of Nursing satellite lab campuses located throughout Alberta in support of rural, and indigenous programming. This recurring part time position (2026) is located in Drayton Valley, Alberta, with the specific AHS site to be determined.
This position reports to the CSLC Manager, while taking direct, day-to-day direction from a CSLC Senior Coordinator (located at Calgary, main campus). The purpose of the role is to deliver operational support for the many lab and simulation activities taking place at the satellite campus site in Drayton Valley. Many duties are performed in coordination with other teammates, including the faculty lab instructor. There is a high degree of autonomy and independence. There is also a requirement for modest physical activities with occasional lifting of ~20 Kgs. The work environment can be described as mimicking a hospital, or care facility or indeed, a variety of clinical/medical settings.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- At the direction of the CSLC Senior Coordinator - prepare, set-up, execute and tear-down all lab and simulation equipment and supplies.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues as needed to ensure labs and equipment are in place for the Drayton Valley campus.
- Inventory, store, and distribute supplies and equipment, while also coordinating shipments.
- Utilize checklists to ensure that equipment is regularly inspected, maintained, cleaned and ready for subsequent use.
- Troubleshoot and performs basic repairs, maintenance, and report more complicated repair issues to the CSLC Monitor.
- Responsible for ensuring that the CSLC lab is an organized and clean learning environment.
- Helps keep accurate records of "on hand" supplies and materials.
- Populates various cost tracking worksheets.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Knowledge of the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse; medical terminology; clinical/medical equipment; medical supplies; and materials.
- Previous experience as a Health Care Aide, Licensed Practical Nurse, or in Paramedicine is an asset.
- 1- 3 years of related experience.
- A diploma in a related field is preferred.
- A passion for healthcare education, and a propensity to learn new things.
- A strong service and client orientation - with a "can do" attitude.
- Excellent communication, time management, organizational, and priority setting skills.
- Being a resource that colleagues count on to help them deliver and perform.
- Some experience in a fast-paced, dynamic medical/clinical environment with moderate oversight/supervision.
- A high level of attention to detail.
- Basic skills with Microsoft Office suite, and an ability/desire to learn other software applications.
- Supports and reinforces a strong existing culture of respect, inclusion, diversity, equity within our community of faculty, staff, and students.
