Reporting directly to the CFO, the Human Resource Manager acts as a strategic business partner to key business units, in the execution of a full range of HR programs, and in the design and implementation of targeted initiatives designed to optimize operational performance.
As the primary point of contact for all levels of staff, the Human Resource Manager is responsible for organizational design, operational human resource planning, employee relations and engagement, training and development, recruitment and selection, and coordination of performance management processes. In addition, the Human Resource Manager may, if required lead the design and implementation of corporate-wide programs or initiatives.
Human Resources Management
- Ensure confidentiality is top priority and always maintained
- Be the liaison between employees and Supervisors/Managers
- Champion HR initiatives that support organizational goals and reinforce a collaborative, engaged and high performing culture
- Manage the development, implementation and maintenance of HR policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with Employment Standards Act and all other governing bodies
- Manage the development, communication and maintenance of these HR policies and procedures via the Employee Handbook
- Provide guidance to Managers on the interpretation and application of a broad range of HR policies, procedures, practices, and laws
- Respond to employee inquiries with regards to HR policies and procedure interpretation, and employment related matters
- Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting HR functions
- Maintain organizational resources and information (i.e., organizational charts, reports, etc.)
- Maintain the Human Resource Information System (HRIS)
- Maintain and distribute emergency contact information to appropriate individuals
- Manage employee engagement by coordinating announcements, newsletters, etc.
Full-Cycle Recruitment
- Develop and deploy talent acquisition strategies to strengthen the organization's capabilities to ensure current and future business needs are met
- Work directly with Managers to determine departmental recruitment needs. Work with COO to ensure recruitment initiatives are in line with operational effectiveness
- Develop and update job descriptions, post jobs, screen and interview candidates, conduct references and prepare job offers. Liaise with recruitment firms when needed.
- Manage the new employee on-boarding process by working with Managers to create Training Plans, conduct new employee orientation, collect all onboarding documents and, send out New Hire Notifications ensuring appropriate employee set-up and security permissions
- Manage the employee exit process by ensuring all paperwork is complete, conduct and analyze exit interviews and, send out exit notifications ensuring appropriate security permissions termination
- Analyze recruitment data to optimize process and outcomes
Performance Management \& Employee Relations
- Work directly with Managers to coordinate and administer, as well as follow-up on, Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) and Probationary Reviews
- Work directly with Managers to coordinate and administer progressive discipline and disciplinary actions
- Handle general employee relations issues or concerns, providing advice to Managers and employees
- Manage performance management system by training Managers to coach and discipline employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances
- Maintain a positive employee relations climate by responding to employees' concerns and addressing issues proactively
- Provide expertise, consultation, and coaching to Managers ensuring the appropriate management of all employee relations' issues including change management, performance, disciplinary action and terminations, coaching, and conflict resolution
Payroll and Benefits
- Collect and maintain payroll hours and submit via payroll software on a bi-weekly basis
- Work directly with Managers to ensure submitted payroll hours are accurate
- Analyze submitted payroll data to ensure operational effectiveness. Escalate issues or concerns to Managers and/or COO, as needed.
- Manage all Benefit Administration including ensuring appropriate paperwork is submitted upon hire as well as, terminated upon exit.
- Handle all benefit-related inquiries or issues and directly liaise with benefit carrier.
Health and Safety
- Work closely with Health \& Safety Manager to ensure employee safety at all times
- Work alongside Health \& Safety Manager on WSIB matters
- Partner with Health \& Safety Manager on the development, maintenance and implementation of the Safety Plans for the business
