The Opportunity:
McElhanney is a professional services consulting firm that mainly delivers multi-disciplinary engineering and land surveying services in Alberta and British Columbia and currently has 30+ physical offices in these two provinces.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Sr. Director of Enterprise Architect and Technology Solutions to define, guide and oversee our strategic digital and technology roadmap. This strategic role is responsible for establishing enterprise architecture-as-a-service to enable business and IT leaders to make investment decisions to enable McElhanney to provide digitally enabled services and continue to identify opportunities to provide digital products and services.
Note: This role is both a strategic and technical role with an expanded scope that includes Enterprise Architecture accountabilities as well as the responsibilities to broker relationships across the innovation.
Our ideal candidate is based in Vancouver, BC, and remote work is considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Digital and Technology Strategy: Develop, maintain and establish the technology strategy and roadmap that provides a unified view across the architecture domains (application, infrastructure, security, integration, and data) to ensure alignment across the business architecture to ensure interoperability. Identify and assess emerging technologies and trends to determine their potential impact on the organization.
- Business (Operations) and IT Alignment: Ensure technology solutions (enterprise, SaaS, and others) effectively support business objectives while being compliant with ML's digital and technology principles. Work closely with various business stakeholders e.g., P\&L business units, corporate departments, and technology practice groups.
- Innovation to support Digitally Enabled Solutions: Oversee the technical development of digital solutions and service offerings as proof-of-concepts where commercial products are not viable.
- Architecture Design and Development: Define and lead the EA governance in the development of architectural blueprints across the different architecture domains: business, software, hardware, data, security, integration, and other technology dimensions to provide a cohesive overview of our technology roadmap.
- Governance and Compliance: Lead the EA governance and work closely with various domain and business stakeholders to establish, enforce and ensure compliance of architecture principles, policies and procedures to industry standards and regulations. Conduct regular reviews and audits of the enterprise architecture to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
- Technology Evaluation and Selection: Work closely with business/operational partners to review business requirements to support the translation and assessment of digital and technology solutions for fit-for-purpose, costs, compliance, security, and interoperability. Identify and propose opportunities for new technologies to improve the organization and/or ways to optimize existing systems.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with business and operational stakeholders to translate business needs to identify the most optimal technology solution. Provide guidance to both IT and business stakeholders on architecture best practices and standards. Translate complex technical information to a broad audience that will include both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong visual communicator.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field.
- One or more professional certifications in the field of Enterprise Architecture: TOGAF9 (The Open Group Architecture Framework), Certified Information System Security System (CISSP), Certified Enterprise Architect (CEA), Zachman, AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
- Certification and/or experience with IT Practice Frameworks like: ITIL Master, COBIT.
- Certification and/or experience with Enterprise Architecture tools like: Archimate, Orbus, LEANIX, Sparx.
- Experience and/or certification in Microsoft Dynamics and Azure Solutions Architect will be extremely valuable.
- Experience in Software Development Life-Cycle Management.
- 15 years' direct work experience as an Enterprise Architect.
- Competent and proficient understanding of ERP platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 (FinOps, Sales, Project Ops and Microsoft Azure), Microsoft DevOps, and other SDLC platforms.
- PMP and/or ITIL Certification(s).
What Can We Offer?
The salary range for this position is $140,000 - $160,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
