We're looking for an experienced Family Lawyer to join our Kidston team. This is a full-time position to join our growing team.
Kidston Helm Ross Lawyers is a full-service law firm specializing in personal injury, estate litigation, insurance disputes, employment law, real estate and business law, and First Nations law. Kidston Helm Ross Lawyers is a leader in legal services in the Okanagan Valley. We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Family Lawyer to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of family law and be passionate about advocating for clients in matters such as divorce, child custody, and adoption. This role requires excellent negotiation skills, legal drafting abilities, and the capacity to conduct thorough research. The Family Lawyer will work closely with clients to provide sound legal advice and representation while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
- Represent clients in family law cases, including divorce proceedings, child custody disputes, and adoption processes.
- Negotiate settlements and agreements on behalf of clients to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Draft legal documents such as petitions, motions, and settlement agreements with precision and clarity.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research to support case strategies and provide informed counsel to clients.
- Communicate effectively with clients to explain legal processes, options, and potential outcomes.
- Maintain accurate case files and documentation in compliance with legal standards and firm policies.
- Stay updated on changes in family law regulations and best practices to ensure effective representation.
THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING:
- A member of good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia;
- Possess a minimum of two years of family law practice experience and be able to make a positive contribution to a firm culture emphasizing collegiality, mutual respect and team building between lawyers and staff.
- Strong negotiation skills with a track record of successful client advocacy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills essential for effective legal drafting and client interaction.
THE PROCESS:
- The interview process includes:
- Remote 30-minute phone interview with Laurel Swan (she/her), HR Advisor.
- In person or remote 60-minute video interview with Laurel Swan (she/her), HR Advisor and Robert Ross (he/him), Managing Partner.
- Insights Assessment Screening.
- Conduct reference and security checks.
- Meeting with partner or family member for fit check.
- Offer.
Salary Range: $100,000-200,000
Start Date: Flexible
